Johnny Depp To Get $75 Million For Pirates 4 - What ?

Totally now hardware related, but too schocking to not report ... I think no-body deserves that much money on whatever job you do. There is a report out right now that Johnny Depp has agreed in principle to do a Pirates of the Caribbean 4, and that his pay cheque for the film will come in at about $75 million dollars. Let me repeat that. Johnny Depp is reportedly going to be pulling in about $75 million (pretty much double the highest contract pay day I've ever heard of. $75 million for one actor. More money than 90% of movies even make in total at the box office they're going to give one guy. Should any human being get paid $75 million for 3 months work?
The staggering sum is the largest upfront payment in film history and will see Johnny, 45, move to the top of Hollywood's rich list - overtaking Will Smith - when he reprises his role as Captain Jack Sparrow. A source said: "It's a hell of a lot of money for one movie but there's only one man who can play Captain Jack Sparrow - and that's Johnny Depp. "Pirates just wouldn't be the same without him, so they were more than willing to smash the record books to land Depp again. He's been the star of the show every time." Earlier this year, Will was named the highest earning actor in Hollywood by Forbes magazine after he grossed £40 million in one year. However, Johnny's new deal will see his earnings soar to £72 million. The source added: "He's laughing all the way to the bank. Not only is he probably the biggest heartthrob in Hollywood, he's now going to be the richest."
With Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean 4, you can pretty much bank on it making at least $300 and possibly as much as $450 million. Without Depp you're looking at $100 million tops. So it could be argued that investing $75 million in Depp for the film makes financial sense -- maybe. SOURCE: GURU3D
 
i think about things like this alot, actors, athletes, entertainers, getting paid outrageous sums of money, then you have your police officers, firemen, volunteers, soldiers, etc, getting paid basically the actors lunch money, with their lives in a very real danger every day. bottom line, as i see it, people are still paying to be entertained by these people, so screw it. let em be. the money could be going to worse places, you know, like to the bad guys who fight our good guys. :isadizzy:
 
Lol, this is a hoax imo. Such a sum would be almost the triple of the highest prices ever paid, and those times were in the nineties more than today.
 
It is outrageous but what is he suppose to do, say no that is too much money I will work for less. If someone offered me that much money to do something, and as long as it was not illegal, immoral or unethical I would take it.
 
When Kurt Russell did the movie "Soldier", he had a total of 40 words that he had to say for the movie...the rest of the time he just had to look mean....and his pay was $20 Million. Heck I could have said forty words and looked fairly mean for a lot less.

I also think it is rediculous that movie stars, athletes, TV talk show hosts, entertainers in general make so much freaking money...while teachers, police officers, fire fighters, nurses, and other people who are essential to the maintenance and preservation of our society get paid chump change. And our military personnel get paid less than chump change. The number of military families who are on welfare just to survive is shocking.

Pirates 4 without Johnny Depp would be a flop for sure....I absolutely am blown away by Captain Jack Sparrow, and I can not think of another actor who could make that pirate so lovable and hateable at the same time. Depp is very careful about the movies he does, and when he opts to do one, he does it in a way that no other actor could do it.

Boggles the imagination, doesn't it. I spent a great part of my working career as a roofer and gutter specialist, talk about a low-paying dangerous occupation. Panther had a post on the average income of Americans, Panther, the most I ever made (net) in a year was $18,900. I will soon be on a limited retirement income, which will certainly not be much due to the fact I never have earned that much money. I have gotten by on less than Jesus, because like Jesus I have many close and good family and friends! :engel016:

I guess part of the sheeple's bailout (ransom) money will help to pay this if it's true. I have come to shun Hollywood, haven't seen a movie in a theater since Flyboys. I also shun politicians, entertainers, lawyers, doctors, and professional athletes. There is one good reason for a professional football (American) player getting so much money. His career is not long, I think the average is something like nine years before they have to retire due to the injuries incurred in the sport. But even they still are paid too much. Don't even approach professional baseball players getting all that money for playing a kid's game! And at least professional motorsport's (two or four wheels) drivers have to put their life on the line each time they perform or even practice for that matter. They too are paid way too much, however.

Cha-ching! A nice haul for Captain Jack Sparrow. :d Even at 75 mil it's still a safe investment for the studio. When you think about all the box office receipts, DVD sales, video games, toys, Happy Meal junk,...the studio is still going to come out waaay ahead. Hats off to Mr. Depp. Must be nice to get that kind of income for basically being a court jester. :costumes:

he's come a long way from 21 jump street, yes? some folks find it upsetting that he sees that kind of payday but guess what? he gets it because you and all your family and friends rush to the theatre to see his movies every time. you are buying the crap out of all his merchandised...crap!
the thing is, when he dies, (and no one knows when that will be) it won't mean a thing to him. what matters is what he does with it while he's here.
 
yeah i risqued my life for 10 years as a fire fighter...fell through three roofs....was a ladderman on a truck company as far as structure fires were concerned,engine capt as far as wildland ...and was burned over twice....only recieved payment when CDF or CALFIRE called us for mutualaid...and that was a state law pertaining to insurance..and actors get paid millions to "play" fire fighters in movies like ladder 49 or backdraft...and now depp is gonna get 75 big to play a pitarte??? ack

i must admit..i do like those pirates of the caribean movies though.....theyre alot of fun....wouldnt be any good with someone else....
 
You know, we were the ones making the 75 mil for acting like a crazed, self-centered, coniving, and rum-rattled pirate captain, I don't think any of us would have a problem with the pay check. I know I wouldn't have a problem with it.
