I think I'll give making the effect a shot, if it seems feasible maybe we can work together to make my effect fit your model appropriately. If it works we should be able to get a minesweeper ring to be visible at any distance, with the farther distance being the effect and the shorter being the more detailed model.
 
Success!!! I was able to create an effect that produced a ring of approximately the correct size around the Ju 52 AND I was able to change its pitch as would be required. That last part could have very significant implications for all our airplanes if it can be triggered on damage...more testing is in order...

So if you want to send me your minesweeper ring when you're done with it, I'd be glad to build an effect special to fit it so that the transition from close up to long distance is as seamless as possible. Just PM me your email if you're interested.

WOW Daniel, That is fantastic, Thank you sooo much, i had just about given up hope on this one, i'll send you it today once i get your email addy, and then i can carry on finnishing the skin,
 
You've probably already got it sorted, but here's a profile I found showing the angle on the ring mounting. Might make a nice skin too. Also, does anyone know what kind of motor was used to power the ring? I'll try to add a sound effect for it if I can find out about what it should sound like when the thing was turned on.

The JU88 looks very good too. I guess it can't be made to cut the cables??

...OOPS, there I go -dreaming of an effect where the barrage cables are cuttable an afterwords the balloons go floating off..... but oh bruddah, the logistics make me head spin! :isadizzy:
 
We've got it finished, and a fun little surprise to go with it too. Waiting for permission to upload as we'd like to do it as a standalone.
