If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

So I'm headed into the Lowes this morning about 0845, walking in beneath the overhang for the contractor's entrance and the loading area for building materials and such.

Oh! Radials!

Change course and head back out from underneath to see what's up.

I live under an "aviation easement" -- which means I'm under the north approaches for KCOS -- Colorado Springs Muni and Peterson AFB. I get some good airshows.

In May we saw the 787 doing high altitude hot conditions approaches. KCOS is good for this because its high (higher than Denver) and not too much traffic. Saw the 747-8 in August. Plus we get Fly-bys for Air Force Academy home football games -- pretty much anything the AF flies or flew. Navy as well when they're in town.

So I'm looking north and trying to place the sound. Not a twin -- B-25 or C-47 for example. Not T-6s, and there'd be more than one since I've got multiple engines. We've had B-17s and B-24s visit and I didn't recognize the sound of either of those.

They sound muffled -- turbocharged! -- but we don't get Connies or DC-6s or DC-7s. Besides that, it doesn't quite sound like 4 engines.

Got'em -- there's 3. P-47s

Put 3 of these in the air together and they sound like the songs of angels.

Might be another reason why the Jug was my flight instructor's favorite plane when he flew 'em in WW2. He retired in F-104s and the Jug was still his favorite.

I walked all the way to the south end of the parking lot to watch them break right and circle to land.

Airshow this weekend...
