There is an excellent freeware D-day scenery by Jeppesen2001 available at TwoToneMurphy's site
You have to register but it's worth it :)

Wow, thanks! Hadn't seen that site before and along with some cool files, looks like they have a fun flying community! Registered and will be checking it out in more detail.

Thanks for the D-Day scenery link - I see preset weather when loading Normandy but not sure what else is there?
For a change, everything worked as advertised: the C-47 manfully hauled the Waco to a fair altitude

then waggled its wings, and I was able to find the cable release (Above your head!) Wheels were disposed of, click-spot sort of just down from there.

We actually visited Normandy at the end of May, and this had a profound effect on me, I had not fully appreciated the scale of the 1944 operation. I have spent countless hours reading online, Youtube, even watched Saving Private Ryan again.
The mind simply boggles.

Above is over the D-Day landing beaches.

If the D-day scenery is active you will know it, you will hear it before you see it. And you will see it even at night...
Not historically accurate but well worth persevering with. From memory it's Utah beach.
