Just a plain WOW!!

I have to say that in using the mods, in particular Ultrapack 2.01, IL2 has become an altogether different and fantastic experience for me. The new and retextured maps, the aircraft mods and the new effects are absolutely phenomenal in my opinion and greatly increase the immersion. I've been having a ball re-discovering WWII combat simming.

Ultrapack 3 is on the verge of release for installation over IL2-1946 version 4.10.

Of course. It is best if server and client are identical installs. Some servers have checks about that and you can not connect if your setup is different, to avoid cheating.

On line flying is possible either between two games IP to IP or by setting up a dedicated server that runs the mission and all players join. In our squad, the Boys of 60 we have a dedicated server set up and use it to fly coop missions, Korea included. For public servers check out the Hyperlobby here: http://hyperfighter.sk/

Most servers in Hyperlobby show their game version, configuration and what mods they have activated so the player can prepare.

Guys, I want to thank you for moving this to the IL-2 forums, but I also want to thank you for beginning the posts here in FSX.. This has been a wonderful thread, and some excellent communication..
Thanks again.
Pam

ok - got the SAS Modact 302 installed - and then the Korean Jet pack installed....it took some time to work it all out (installation guides always seem to assume you've done it before) and I have to say - with patience and perseverance, this makes Il2 a whole new ballgame.

the upgrades that come as part of the base Modact 302 include but are not limited to improved sounds (engine and prop, machine guns and cannon..etc) and atmospherics.

the Korean Jet 1956 files are equally impressive

I'm glad you got it working! :wavey:Carrier ops are a blast in Il-2. There is also a mod somewhere that adds deck crew and another one that illuminates the deck at night. They should somewhere in the SAS site.

Now go do some dogfighting or ground pounding. That's what the sim is made for.:jump:

awright easy Pal, wont do me any good to rain pain on the gomers unless I can get back on the boat...lol

deck crew and lighting, eh...is there a catapult mod somewhere also?

BtW - if anyone out there has Il2'46 or wants to get it (the price is around $10.00) I have to recommend the SAS website for all of these FREE mods made with expertise and regard for the original sim and developer (Oleg)...even though the original code is long in the tooth, these people have made it shine and it all runs smooth as glass on today's mid range rigs - a quad core rig with a good GPU means NO stuttering ever, period end.

Catapults exist too. There are modded carriers that have catapults. You can't take off in a loaded Panther otherwise.

I hope warchild lets us continue this discussion here as perhaps it is interesting to others too.

Ok - got the maps installed ok - the sim loads just fine

I can load the maps just fine in the FMB - no problem

I can build a mission on any of the Korean Peninsula maps in the pack..no problem

BUT - I cannot Save or Fly any of the missions I create with these maps...

I click 'save as' ....and nothing - the dialog box goes away but nothing is saved - and I know how and where to save new missions so that is not the problem.

I'm stumped - checking SAS website for an assist

When this happens the cause is usually that you are missing modded objects that are not standard. This is the problem of creating custom installs with modact. Some mods might conflict or need other mods to work right.

There is a big pack of objects here: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,12257.0.html

There is a possibility that if you install this you'll be able to save your mission.

The safest way is to wait a couple of days and install the Ultrapack 3.0. All mods in the pack are tested and bug free. It is planned to be released this week. That is what I am waiting for personally. Korean maps and planes, carriers and everything will be included.

Excellent thread, guys, thanks for these insights. I'll wait until the Ultrapack 3.0 comes out and resurrect my Il2 installation!

Cheers,
Mark

There's a Panther campaign being worked on right now by a very good friend of mine :jump:

I spent last night with my online buds doing launches and traps off of the USS Boxer. The catapult mechanism is awesome. Taxi, get into the launch position, put in the chocks, put the wings down, full flaps, full power, release chocks and whoosh!

Dang I should have taken screenshots last night, but I was too busy with my buddies giving me my carrier quals. Took some time, but it is one helluva job to get yourself onto a rolling, moving carrier in these early jets!

thanks Dimus...you have been more help than the SAS boards

I guess I'll wait for the UP3 as most of what I have installed already will likely now need to be undone anyways...

me and my impatience

You're very welcome heywooood. After trying many flightsims I have ended up using Il-2 as a combat sim and FSX for my GA flying fix. I also have fun making Greek stuff for both of them as I am doing some airport scenery and repaints for FSX and I also have a map of western Greece in the works for Il-2 but not much time to finish it.

I don't think you have harmed your install. Try that object pack I suggested. It might work while you wait for UP.

Anyway, as said before Il-2 is portable so you can make another clean unmodded 4.10.1 install ready to accept the Ultrapack and keep this one for experimentation. Just name the folders differently.
