Did anyone ever create one of the large Flying Boats for CFS2? Either a Boeing 314 or Martin M-130?
Also, is it possible to convert a CFS2 seaplane (example: Pby or Pb2y Coronado) to float as an AI? I know that a number of Japanese AC float, but I guess they were designed as floaters from the beginning. Any chance that there are some US AC that float?

Sunderland

If you mean AMERICAN flying boats, I don' t know, but there is a beautiful Sunderland by Stuart Green. There is even an updated version with bow wave etc.

There are FS models available for both the Martin (Jens Christensen) & the Boeing (Mike Stone) and both are readily convertible to CFS2. Frame rates are understandably heavy but you most likely won't be flying them in squadrons.

Goody, something new.

You can use Mk_Mdl_Ver 2.0+ to do conversions.

It use a nice point and click interface. It works well for me.

Thanks Allen! I'll give it a whirl. Can't blow up my rig trying. Anyway, Oldwheat took pity on me and did a couple of conversions so I'm all fixed for now.

It not to hard to do. Use the left side to navigate to the aircraft you want to convert Models folder. Then in the Source MDL file box you shoul seen the MDL of the aircraft click on it. If the model is a FS2004 model in the MDLC Commands box check mark f/ Convert to FS2002, c/ Convert to CFS2 and t/ Fix model animation. Now click Start conversion. If the model is a FS2002 just use f/ Convert to CFS2 and t/ Fix model animation.

When the conversion starts the left side that you used to navigate will become a box that will show what it is converting to the MDL to. Also at the top right below the X it will show converting... wait than it will show conversion passed or conversion failed.

When all of the converting is done you should see 3 files in the converted files box. (or 2 files if the model was FS2002) You will want to select the file that ends with .MDT or Fixed animation file and hit replace and hit Yes in the next window that pops up.

Your done! Now start CFS2 and see how it came out.

Actually the Martin 130 kept 'timing out' with MK- MDLC and I was forced to do it manually with MDLC alone. Still not a big deal to do.

If I want to comvert an FS2004 airplane, is it just the MDL I have to work on, or is there aomething elae? What about textures?

The textures will likely work fine. If not you may have to do some quick editing. Get DXTBmp.
http://www.btinternet.com/~mnwright/programs/dxtbmp.htm

First CFS2 maximum texture size is 1024 x 1024 and BMP formats are DXT 1 to DTX 3, 444-4, 555-1, 565, 888-8 and 256 color.

If the texture is larger than 1024 x 1024 re-size it down and save it in one of the BMP formats listed above.

Hello Allen, thank you for the information! I have saved the tools and will give it a try, once I have some time.

Re Post from "Mid Air Collisions"

Per suggestion from Allen, I probably should have posted this here instead of the "Mid Air Collisions - Post".

Mk_Mdl_Ver 2.0+ Won't work for me

It looks like a great little program. It's probably me. I just don't know what I'm doing, but Mk_Mdl_Ver 2.0+, just doesn't want to work for me. I'm running Win 7.

When I run the program I get a box that says....

"Missing Files: mdlc.exe" and then "The MDLC program by Ivan Hsu was not found. In order to use this software you must have a
copy of the MDLC files installed in the same directory as this mk_mdlc software."

But when, I close the box....boom.... the application " Win utility for MDLC" opens up. I can make the changes but when I click the "Start Conversion Button" I get a big red text message in the upper right corner,CONVERSION FAILED.

If anyone can suggest a solution, I'm game to try it.

I tested on my Win7 and it looks like it won't work. I get a 16 bit program (MDLC) not supported popup than a CONVERSION FAILED.
