Agreed... simple personal preference plays a big part.
And obviously if you can have everything: full working VC, absolutely authentic sounds, perfect flight characteristics...would anyone say no to any of that?
But I'm interested to hear why you'd want to set up in windowed mode?
Numero uno: because FS does not play well with dual monitors in full screen. If there is no VC then the important ancillary panels get opened and moved to my 2nd monitor to be readily available (including any extra one's I've made for special use) - then, like a vc, I just turn my head to see them and use as required. Since a lot of VC's still benefit from/require the pop-ups to get at all the functions, there are times the 2d is better for the reduced FPS hit or better 'ergonomics'.
As OBIO says:
I feel the same way, in some aircraft, in some flight regimes.. but then, I have also never flown a r/l aircraft that required mouse-clicks so that's not very realistic a simulation either. If I can't be "in" the plane, flying it from a 3D cockpit, it just doesn't feel like a simulator to me...
Then again, probably 50% of my flying is not just to experience flight (been doing that for 55 years) but to appreciate the historical aircraft and experience, the differences in aircraft, the specific skills some require or to fit a particular 'mission'. If someone offered a chance to have a 100% (documented and tested) accurate FDE, I'd survive with a mini panel as a trade-off.
Rejecting a particular model based on the lack of a VC (or clickables, or a 2D panel or tolerable sounds), to me, is like refusing the last rental car on the lot at midnight in a strange town because it isn't a 2-door.
The Bristol?? Since there is no other, I'm not going to let it go to waste - but then I still fly some of Mike Stone's planes for the same reason so what do I know?
