as the title says...just what IS dcs ?...i see the rasbam facebook page is allways refering to it,and they seem to be doing alot of development for it...but what IS it?.....a shoot'em up?...military?..are people going to go away from GA stuff again to the shoot'em up stuff (developers i mean)?

shoot'em up is fun for some...but not for me....imma stay with FSX/P3D...and my GA flying......thats real to me

Dave, I believe what you're referring to is DCS, or Digital Combat Series http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com. They were the originator of SU27 Flanker, KA50 Blackshark and Flaming Cliffs. They have now morphed their series into the next level, which is DCS World. Conceptually, modular component based where you can fly anything from planes to helicopters; use ground based objects such as Air Defense, MBT's, ICV's, Artullery and anything ground based to support the ground war or shoot down the flyers above. Anyway, many FSX developers, Razbam, Iris, A2A, Milviz and others, are now developing titles that support the DCS world, able to sell their wares individually rather than self sustaining titles by themselves.

I don't think it's a bad idea by any stretch, but still has some growing pangs that wil occur for some time, such as fighting a P51 against modern air defenses and aircraft.

DCS has a lot of potential, especially with some of the more serious developers diving into it ! I do NOT think it will be a 'danger' to GA flying in any way. Military simmers are the target audience. Having said that, because of the vastly more modern techniques used (as compared to FSX) the 'world' looks a lot more realistic in some ways and parts.

Me, I just fly them all and enjoy the best of all worlds :applause:

Some developers see the future of flight simming as either DCS World, or Madcats Combat Pilot addon for fsx, so like A2A they are playing their hand in those realms. The general belief is that business wise, Flight Sim is dieing and is becoming a non viable platform.. I personally think this theory is incorrect asd that the presumed death of FSX is much too premature...

I don't think this is the 'general' belief, at least NOT among the developers that "I" have contacts with on a regular basis. Mind you, I am not complaining if a few of the 'big ones' disappear from the FSX arena........ that will give us small developers some butter on our dry bread ! :kilroy:

Classics Hangar is currently evaluating the possibilities of developing for DCS in addition to our FSX activities.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. I think DCs is going to be a flash in the pan. I'm sorry but I do FSX for one reason and thats for flying....I'm not doing it for bombing and killing. If the developers wish to go that route so be it but I won't follow. I think its also a huge drawback from the developers to forget where they came from and just decide that FSX is dying. honestly...my money will go to those who choose to stick with FSX. It seems to me that those who have decided to go the route of DCS hve also damaged their support systems.

Hell.....I can say STILL!!!! I have asked one question of one of the companies who have begun developing for DCS and to this day not one person who represents then has given me an answer, and I've been asking for months on end. I'm not going to mention them here as I've made my opinion known elsewhere. No not MILVIZ!!! To me at this point MILVIZ, WBS, Virtavia, Carenado, Alebeo and A2A are where my money goes for add-on's. I would love myself to be part of a smaller group of developers to help but its been proven that if your aren't part of a clique, you will get no gold. I have been asked yb WBS to do some testing and for that I am very grateful. The offer they made me was awesome...and its no wonder I won all their Mustnags from day one.

done my rant.....oh wait....no I have no interest in DCS...period. :salute:

Based upon the long term plan they are not, although Scott has called me up a few times and surprised me.

Pulled off SIMHQ forum for DCS World.....looking forward to this, as well as their Phantom, Starfighter in FSX and hopefully DCS as well. I also enjoy just the flying aspects of FSX, but also like to dogfight and blwo things up from time to time. http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3682513/3.html

I am in concurrence with Skyhawk's statement about how some have jumped ship from FSX and even when they were supporting FSX, their support sucked, so no loss in my book.

@ Colin, my apologies, but thought I had read you were considering supporting DCS with some of your titles, as they would be fantastic UPT's and mud movers. just my thoughts, though think many share them as well.

MV is not, at this time, developing anything for DCS.

My apologies if mis-spoken. I would personally love to see much of your wares ported over to DCS World, to compete with the other guys. Knowing in advance your customer support is far better than some of the DCS developers that are already posting on the DCS forums. That being said, I would alss love to see your teams continued support in FSX.

The same goes for me. I have been seeking support from a payware developer as well since August whom has started to develop for DCS...to this date the issue has not been sorted out. I tried the DCS A-10, it looks great, but it does not appeal much to me. For military simulation I still prefer my trusted Falcon 4.0.

I believe you all have said it quite succinctly and well.. I will not program for DCS or combat pilot. I have no interest in going there. Yes, i admit that I WOULD like to pit my Su-37 against an F-22 but thats for shear amusement and to settle for myself, a very old argument about which is better.. :)..
PS. My sincere apologies Scott. Next time instead of listening to third parties i will wait till you make an announcement..

Hey Everyone.

It's Metal2Mesh and Razbam developing the Tornado GR-4.

Honestly, DCS offers more ability for the systems and true combat theater. It's extremely more intensive with developing then FSX. Such as Razbam and Metal2Mesh, we haven't forgot about FSX, we have moved over to DCS because it has a higher market for military fighters then FSX. We will still support FSX developments in the mean time.

I still don't get why they have a Mustang. Will there be more WWII content, such as an appropriate map and aircraft?

My humblest apologies Tim. The M looked sort of like an A, but now that you've spoken, I see where it looks like an M. Very much looking forward to the release, hopefully in as much fidelity as the A10C. Also, bookmarked your website to keep up with the progress. Thanks for the clarification.
