OH D3A1 Val Kamikaze UT.zip

821313938427967846.jpg

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Skins - Japanese

Description: OH Aichi D3A1 Val kamikaze by UncleTgt

This is a conversion of the Overhauled D3A1 Val for CFS 2. Following the guidelines by Pen32win, it turns the aircraft into an AI kamikaze that can be used in missions. The repaint is an aircraft from the Usa Hikotai, Okinawa 1945.

The changes made were:

The dp was modified to add kelti exhaust effects, & the crew & rear MG were removed using alpha masking. The aircraft category was changed to 4. You lose the true dive bomb vertical dive but retain a moderately steep dive onto target, but gain the ability to programme a low level torepado bomb approach on target vessels.

The payloads were changed to offer the Mission writer two different attack profiles.

Kamikaze - Hi - This mimics a hi level/ dive bomb approach & uses Shadow Wolf's kamikaze bomb from his Satan's Kittens VF19 campaign (available at Sim-Outhouse)

Kamikaze - Low - This uses Pen32win's skip bomb mod (AF_ddandhf.zip, B25 skip bomb aircraft, available at Sim-Outhouse) to mimic a low level approach.

Notes for mission builders:

See Pen32win's AF_Kamikaze pack for how to build events & triggers for a kamikaze mission. All I've done is to use his later skip bomb-torpedo to allow some variety to kamikaze attack profiles.

For the "lo" approach the change in weapon means the drop trigger becomes "attack with torpedoes", & the mission trigger becomes "torpedoes = 0" instead of "bombs = 0", but otherwise operates exactly as Pen32win advises.

When invoking the "engine fire" event, I've found that particularly with the low approach profile it's better to delay the event by a second or two, but otherwise Pen32win's notes are spot on.

To install, copy your D3A1 Val aircraft & call it D3A1_kamikaze. Unzip this download and place your chosen files in the correct folder(s) for the D3A1_kamikaze within the aircraft folder in your CFS2 Main Directory. Back up any originals & replace them with these.

Thanks to:

B24 Guy for demirroring the stock aircraft.

Kelti for inspiring exhaust effects & prop disks.

Martin Wright for Mdlmat & DXTbmp programmes.

Pen32win for his AF_Kamikaze pack & the skip bomb-torpedo, allowing us to mimic some real world tactics in spite of the limitations of the CFS 2 game engine.

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Skins - Japanese

Description: Akemi Nakajima J1N1-S Gekko kamikaze by UncleTgt

This is a conversion of Akemi's J1N1S Gekko for CFS 2. Following the guidelines by Pen32win, it turns the aircraft into an AI kamikaze that can be used in missions. The repaint is of an aircraft from 133ku, Okinawa 1945.

The changes made were:

Parts of the aircraft model were rendered transparent, so the upper & lower MGs would not show up. The crew were rendered transparent using alpha channel transparency, & replaced in the dp by a single stock ja_pilot.

Notes for mission builders: See Pen32win's AF_Kamikaze pack for how to build events & triggers for a kamikaze mission. All I've done is to use his later skip bomb - torpedo to allow some variety to kamikaze attack profiles.

I've included a rough & ready sample mission using stock ships as targets. You can just sit & watch the attack develop. It's better with non-stock ships, as the dp files of the stockers aren't great for torpedo hits or late war flak, but it will give you an idea of how things are put together.

To install, copy your mz-j1n1s aircraft & call it mz-j1n1s_Kamikaze. Unzip this download and place your chosen files in the correct folder(s) for the mz-j1n1s_kamikaze within the aircraft folder in your CFS2 Main Directory. Back up any originals & replace them with these.

Reply...

UncleTgt,

Many thanks from all of us for figuring out how to execute this despite the limitations of the sim! :very_drunk:

Rami, it's not perfect by any means, if anyone improves them further they should upload their work here.

At least we have some variety to those late war intercepts.

:highly_amused:

And there WERE 4000 actual Kamakazi pilots in action. so that gives us quite a bit of history to honour if we do some.

Splendid job!

What a great job you did UncleTgt!
I just got all of 'em! Thank you!

:applause: :applause: :applause:

P.S.: the update of your TCook's Wellington skins is done. I just have to write the readmes and I'll upload them!

Cheers!

Small update

I've been trying out a Ki-49 Helen (screenies below).

As I do more testing, I think I will re-issue the kamikaze a/c dp files - when I altered the engine 1 dp effects for each aircraft I upped the percentile thresholds for the kamikaze effects as I thought we needed a little more time after weapon release before the a/c destruction. However as I do more testing I find it's sometimes leading to a/c staying in the air too long after weapon release. So I think they all need to revert to something closer to Pen32wins original percentages :indecisiveness: sorry 'bout that.

Thanks to the B24 Guy I have a worn-out Sally I can modify for use as a kamikaze - the AI airfile still needs some work

Hi OW,

The ki-49 Helen is the Sean Anderson original as overhauled by The B24 Guy, it includes your prop bitmap improvement.

The ki-21-I Sally is Pakayan's, with the QC CTD conversion error elimininated by the B-24 Guy.

I could have used the "other" Sally available, but my changes to create a kamikaze a/c would be against the author's wishes, so I looked at using Pakayan's, originally converted for CFS2 by Peperez.

I believe the B24 Guy Helen is now multi LOD, but Pakayan's Sally is not. It shouldn't cause too much trouble, as kamikaze raids were usually a few a/c in number only. My 7 year old machine runs Sally strike test missions without too much trouble...

I've updated the kamikaze zips to revert the engine fire effects back to Pen32wins numbers - sometimes the a/c were flying on too long after dropping ordnance.:redface-new:

You can cut & paste from the engine effects section of any of Pen32wins AI kamikaze files to effect the change instead of downloading all over again.

I've also updated the early Gekkos & kamikaze Gekko files with Allen's fix for the dp. In QC you could get a CTD when shooting them down, it was a duplicate box number entry in the original akemi dp file.

The Ki49 Helen & Ki21 are in the queue. The Ki21-I Sally model has been fixed by the B24 Guy & no longer CTDs when shot down.

Next on the work bench is a ki45 Nick... this uses Mortons all green skin as a base with 21st Sentai markings (BPF Operation Meridian, Sumatra JAN 45).

58 Sentai, Sumatra JAN45, with options for dark green or stripey camo.

The changes made were:

The dp was modified to add kelti exhaust effects, & the crew were removed using alpha masking. I tweaked the glass colour & transparency, & the altered the spinner colour to suit the camo.
