Just rumaging around in the cupboards and found old trusty. They stopped making these at one time, not sure if they still make them now. This one is a Mk.6B. I was going to pass this on to a mate of mine for his private licence navigation, but he dropped out of it after the restricted licence.
 
I still have one of those. Mine is at least 50 years old. Got it while in the U.S. Air Force and taking private pilot training at Charleston AFB Aeroclub. I'm not sure I would even know how to use it now.

I still have the original instruction manual and other bits out of the kit, can't bring myself to part with it.
 
The "WIZ WHEEL"...The E6B..An infernal device..OK on a table ..but in any Turbulence in the Air???...Many Old Geeezers gave them up.. Needed sharp eyes .Sportys Electronic E6B was a huge improvement. Still have my APR E6B, My JEPCO Slide Graphic E6B, As Well As My Jeppesen CR-1 Computer. This was a Two sided wheel..and no slide...All did the Job...A Must for Dead Reckoning...Reckon Wrong??..and Yer Dead! Thanx For The Memory!!!<label for="rb_iconid_24">

I have a couple of the original Kane 6B's. My first was from the late 60's.

They were built to last.

I've got several other types, but they're no where near the quality of the Kane.

Bought one last year.

Struggling to learn to use the E6B (by ASA ) I bought last year. Wanted to learn "real navigation" instead of the GPS method. They DO still make them!

You are very wise wanting to learn how NOT to rely on GPSs because "what can go wrong will go wrong." Then there is the side benefit or planning a flight the old fashioned way, leaving the GPS either at home or turned off, take off, head to your destination, and then fly right over the middle of the runway for an overhead to downwind right on time (within a minute or two).
