Kennedy Space Center Scenery

I need to ask the obvious question...when will those spectacular updates be available to us mere mortals?

I got an update from MSMP today. Haven't really spent a bunch of time checking it out. What's in the update and is there anything special I should be looking for? Thanks.

Hi,

Actually, it is not an update. It should be the MSFS2020 Version 1, Asobo-ported to be compatible on MSFS2024. You probably purchased 2020 version 1.0, and now MP is notifying you that it has been ported to 2024.

We are still working on the Version 2, which will contain tracks, walking crew, vehicle convoy and launches.

I did acquire on date of release. Keep up the good work....looking forward to V2.

amazing work - really wonderful to see Apollo 11 in this media format as one who watched and followed the actual as an 8yo boy - shuttle launches are impressive here as well.
Keep up the fantastic work !

Will we be able to position the crawler transporter anywhere along the roadway to the pad?
No - for this V2 version, crawler is always positioned in front of VAB, and then it starts its journey towards one of the pads.

You probably wanted to see the whole contraption climbing onto the pad, without waiting? :D Yeah - that would need quite a bit of work, because the crawler would need to be re-designed to be articulated to keep the pad level while going up the incline. We don't have the time or resources to do that just yet.

Ohhhh. Bummer. ;-)

I think we squeezed as much as we can out of the night version of launch smoke. It is not ideal, as they seem not to react to light sources, nor can their night lighting parameters be changed (bright, then dim with time)... so, until this is fixed by Asobo, the below night launch shots are the best we can get.

Also, I experimented with a different cloud puff sprite, and the results look promising ;)

Looks amazing.

With Orbiter 2024 now available, it's possible to experience almost all aspects of shuttle launch, orbit and recovery.

Any thought given to creating a Vandenberg AFB SLC-6 launch pad / setup? Though they were never actually launched, it would make for a very exciting addon with a unique some-what historical twist...

cheers,

dl

Yeah - I am not sure what Orbiter 2024 brings with respect to older versions, but the visuals are at least 10 years behind of today's standards. I think MSFS202x is a superb platform to develop a spaceflight module (with all of the ecosystem, cockpit functionality, terrain, weather, etc), albeit limited to geostationary orbit... which is fine, for now. I think MSFS users want to fly historic, current, near future hardware, and not really visit some far star systems using some imaginary mode of propulsion. There are other sims for that. But what they DO want is an absolute realism when it comes to cockpit, procedures, etc., just like in the case of aircraft.

Re Vandenberg, no, we had no plans to do it in the near future. We'd like to do SpaceX Pad 39A with Falcon and FalconHeavy, and Boca Chica Starship area. Those are sites where there is a lot of activity, so that would be more warranted than Vandenberg.

I really think modeling SpaceX equipment is the way to go currently. I would really like to watch a Starship launch in MSFS (especially while airborne in the "no fly" area). Go SpaceX, go Starship, go Boca Chica! Go TerraBuilder....when are launches going to be released?

Not sure about the Starship... Those explosions are gonna be pretty hard on the frame rate. :)

Kidding. :) Any rocket launch stuff is great, and Falcon and Falcon Heavy would be super cool.

Release is within days. We are just adjusting some animations we noticed were off.

Sharing here a quick WIP of the VERY TRICKY plume exhaust VFX, that we think is finally starting to look decent. We managed to create a bright VFX for the immediate white-hot engine exhaust that blends the 3D bright flames, and is then combined with a long-lasting darker plume trail. Here are 4 videos, for different times of day:

@dvj, they mentioned on the official forums that door animations are planned after they model the VAB interior.

Update is out now on 2020. The launch animations are stunning, far better than I'd have thought they could pull off in MSFS! And the crawler tracks and accompanying walkers are really cool.

We managed to capture this one, in 4K (which gives such crisp resolution to smoke sprites)... So far, our favorite ;) Something to do with overcast cloud cover and lighting conditions it produces.

The comedy of huge "NO SMOKING" label and casually interacting personnel during launch is not lost on us :D
