Ki 44-II SHOKI beta

just to make clear what I mean, I speak about this gun sight recticle, its activated and deactivated by the Concorde nose key's.
wolfi

Well, ...

For a 3D gunsight reticle in a fighter in a combat zone, ...and the fact that ALL the other A/C I fly (and will fly the wings off this one) have fixed 3D reticles...

...I think it's a cool "fiddle-factor", ...but more appropriate for a bomber, ...and I'll have to put a post-it on the monitor to remind me how to turn the thing on.

If it were on by default, ...then it's a win-win.

Otherwise, ...My hangin' chad is for non-switchable.

(unless, ...of course, ...if it could be linked to a damage box, ...and SHOT OUT!)

Thanks W.

BTW: Morton wrotes, he has no background information about his skins, so I will try :

#121 "Hombu" is of the Sentai Hombu (Headquarter) of the 246. Sentai at Osaka AB (Kobe/Japan) probably late 1944 - early 1945.

The blue colour indeed indicates the use within the Sentai Hombu.

http://www.michael-reimer.com/CFS2/CFS2_Profiles/PTO_IJA_Aircraft_(Sentai_200+).html

The other one (#16) is more complicated. I normally have seen this profile adapted to a Ki-84 of 520 Sentai:

http://www.michael-reimer.com/CFS2/CFS2_Profiles/PTO_IJA_Aircraft_(Sentai_500+).html

So either, this is not historically accurate, or the Pilot of the Ki-84, flew a similar painted Shoki before.

BTW: Add these lines to the aircraft.cfg to set your VC light right:

[LIGHTS]
panel= 0.00, 0.600, -1.200, fx_vclight
//Lateral (m), vertical (m), longitudinal (m)

@Wolfi:
The gunsight is magnifiscent!!
I never dreamt, this could be modelled within our oldtime CFS2!!

I just had to thank Wolfi and Morton on the Ki-44. I grabbed Wolfi's Ju-87 wing racks ... a pair of 50kg IJA bombs from the repainted offerings by PSULLYKEYS (ex-BR Ki-21 Sally II ordnance) and a set of Ki-44, 130 liter drop tanks from I don't know where. A little rework of the dp and airfile (to add the 535 right drop tank) and ... as Mr. Gleason said ... AWAY WE GO!

Outstanding job, gentlemen!

Truly Awesome gunsight...

Problem:
Prob.1 For the aircraft.cfg/[Views]/eyepoint=-4.8,0.00,2.7 to work, ...

the recticle needs to be moved up to align w/ the sight attached. (~+100 pixels)

Or, ...

The eyepoint can be re-set to eyepoint=-4.8,0.00,2.68 w/ a small drop in the recticle (~-10, ...but I haven't corrected a recticle for this option yet.)

Or, ...

The drop can be incorporated into a "gunsight" view that I use (but prob no one else) along w/ the lean-in function of the view.

Recommendation:
R.1 Make the recticle "on" by default.

R.2 Raise the recticle, ...there is plenty of room in the gunsight. (it would prob be centered)

R.3 Enlarge the recticle, ...if possible, ...by 50-100%.

Thanks W.

Upon further research...

The IIb's had only cowl MG's, ...w/ some having low velocity 40mm cannon added as "special weapons".

The IIc's had 2x2 Ho-103 12.7mm MG's (cowl and wing) w/ none ever having 20mm cannon installed.

So, ...

Could ya (after the final production A/C is finished) make a .mdl w/o wing guns (barrels) to accurately represent a Model IIb.

Thanks W.

I'm getting a CFS2 "unknown" error followed by a CTD when I select the Ki-44 for Free Flight. I think the advanced mdl and large textures are more than my old pooter can cope with. :frown: Time to upgrade.

You may want to try this. When I had an old computer I used to do it with every single High-Resolution skin I could download.

Just open the main textures in a paint program and resize them to 50% (or even 25% for small bits like the pilot textures, for instance) and also reduce the colour depth to 8 bits (256 colors). If the problem lies in the graphic card, it usually works. It's better to lose a bit of quality rather than not enjoying the plane at all.

I'm not sure if that's any help.. The texture sizes for the Ki-44 is still the same as the stock ones for example, 1024x1024. No special "high resolution" about my textures. Think it's more the MDL which is the problem then..

Ki-44c ACM Beta...

Ok...

This lagniappe is a once-over ACM pass...

Note: You'll need the "wep_ja_Ki-44_130_tank".dp/.bgl from the AvH 1% "Ki-44c" over at Netwings.net, ...as well as the "RealityX" files.

These are 1% files corrected for Wolfi's .mdl, ...1X damage resolution (CFS2 std., ...as opposed to the 1% std.3X), ...and effects.

Gunstations are ACM.

Wheel contact points have been visually adjusted, ...but the .cfg/[Contact_points] have NOT had the ACM treatment , ...yet.

.cfg/[eyepoint] is set to the default gunsight recticle, ...and has been moved forward a bit.

.air is a corrected 1%, ...w/ stall/snap-roll engaged, ...and you'll need trim because both the gear and flaps produce a nose-down moment.

.dp should be good to go. (although there seemd to be some discrepancy RE: gun ammo capacity...)

Enjoy.

And thanks W.

Gunstation Correction...

Found a nice cutaway of a Ki-44, ...and realized that I mis-located the deck (cowl) guns too far aft.

They are just a little aft of the wing guns...

Still don't know about the ammo, ...

Some say 250 rpg for all Ho-103's (1000 total) w/ the std. deck mag being 250-270 rpg, ...

Others say 760 rounds total.

...any help would be appreciated...

Wolfi thank you for this new addition to the Axis Airforce. It a masterpeice as far as I"am concern.I use it a mission defending Okinawa in 1945 and I had a blast. It has a little bit of instability while flying it and I believe its about right. It climb pretty fast like it should and its bettter than avearage in a dive for a Japanese fighter. My olny concern is its speed may be a little to fast. It has a pretty good accelaration speed but it maintian a top speed that may be a tinch to fast. I know it was flying faster on level flight at a speed faster than 370 mph. Thats not the information I have on the speed on level flight for the Ki44. Other than that its a maxnificant AC addon to our CFS2 AC collection.

Thank you very much.

I really like your work.

Thank you and have a good day!

Hey Wolfi! I was not able to get the Drop tank and other Weapons like its alocated Bomb to show up, How can we fix this?

I would like to be able to use them on long missions and bomb some Ally Airfields in the future!

Thank you!

All the hardpoints are set to 0,0,0, ...so all the ordi is inside, ...ya can't see it.

S.1 Hand edit the .dp.

S.2 Cut'n'paste the hardpoint section of the .dp included in my post.

S.3 Use the entire .dp (and the.cfg, .air as well)
