Kill claims form doesn't appear anymore - why is that?

CPIRRMANN, I think, it's the wingmen missing. As you don't know the ground troops by name - how could you fill in the report?

In real war, it might have been more complex. You could sometimes even visit the crash site and rip off a piece from the wreckage. Ground troops might call via telephone and report, they had witnessed.

But here, I guess, the devs could only use the wingmen's names. If you can't name anyone, cause there was no one there - no claims (cause, inside the program, the events, that have happened, must get verified with your report data).
Would be great though, when your observer/rear gunner could get listed as a witness. But may be, that in the original war, they wouldn't have accepted that either.

The more I think about my misfortune, the more I come to this conclusion:

If you have no wingmen near to witness your kill(s), you can't fill in any names in the claims report. Right?
So, it would be rejected anyway; or it couldn't even be filled out.
I think, that must be the reason, why it didn't appear. No 'mistake' in the program, but pure logic rather?

Would those of you remember, how your situation was, when the claims form didn't appear? Could it be, you also were without witnesses?

In that case, it would just be right - no witness, no claim, no kill confirmation.
(Otherwise, everybody could boast about fictional kills after a lone wolf mission). What do you think?

I was alone when I got three Pfalzs and had no claim-form come up. I thought it was because the ground MGs had made hits too and there would be a conflict of claims.

Salute Olham and All,

I had the same thing happen to me as well, and it was also when no other flight members were in the area. I assumed it was due to the lack of a witness that I was unable to file the claim. I really appreciate the claim form and how it functions as it seems to emulate very well how the process worked, or didn't work, for our WW1 counterparts. The only thing I can think of that would make it even better would be if there could be a way to list gun crews or ground troops as possible witnesses to the event. But I am good with it just the way it is.

Salute!

Lou

I think a great many confirmations in real life came from ground troops. They reported all enemy activity in their areas, which often included seeing planes crash. If possible, they'd go over and check out the wreckage, too. This would all get passed up their chain, where it could be compared at the end of the day to claims made.

The other thing is that, at least if you were an officer, you were a gentleman and therefore had the benefit of a presumption of not lying. Calling a gentleman a liar was still apt to get you into a duel in those days, after all. The idea that officers were really of the gentry was still around out of habit, because the new mass armies of middleclass officers hadn't been around long enough yet to change attitudes. Thus an officer pilot could go out alone over enemy territory, shoot down a few planes, and his report would be taken more or less as his word of honor. Enlisted men were probably out of luck on this, though ;).

I don't think so, or at least not in my cases. The problem with the bullet stats not being reported indicates that it is a computer problem with the mission data, not a purposfully coded thing. Plus I had lots of witnesses.

Hey Olham, I don't believe this is true. I have definitely shot down planes waaay away from my wingmen and have definitely been able to file claims for them. I have a tendency to wander off from my flight if I see some juicy Germans that need shooting down, so I frequently get kills by myself off away from the group.

RR

p.s. I guess I should say that I used to wander off from the group, pre patch. Now-a-days, that sort of behavior will get you killed!

How the Claim Reports works

Now I have seen, how it works.
Our flight of 4 Albatros D II came across 2 Bristol Scout deep below, over the mud. I attacked them, but didn't order my wings to do so. They were all around us, while I killed the Scout (So they were witnesses!)
When I had just finished him off, we were attacked by 6 Nieuport 17 from high above.
Soon, my wings were out of sight, while I was in a fierce dogfight.
Within 7 minutes, I managed to damage 4 Nieuport 17 so much, that they crashed. Each time they were shown as destroyed by me. But no wings around - all the time.
I got a claim form and filled it all in. The menue at the end asked, if I wanted to state it this way - it was erreneus and would get rejected.
Now, I wiped out the last claim and tried it again. No way!
The claim would be rejected, until I had only the first kill left in - the one, that my wings had witnessed!
Now, the report was accepted!
I think, this proofs, how it works: you must have witnesses (and in our game case: wingmen, as ground troops would make it too difficult).

Every other claim would get rejected.
I'm happy, that it's no mistake in the game - it's logical and totally acceptable.
