A few more with the new specular and bump maps in play, as to repainting this model there are no special challenges involved , no scaled or squished maps and there are no mirrored wings or body maps so all surfaces can have their own artwork .
A layered PSD will be released with the model .

My role is as the technician, i am forwarded the " raw " model and its psd files in this case produced by Colin and his team from MilViz.<o:p></o:p>
Once i have them in my hot little hands i process the raw psd's and turn them into dds files and begin setting up the materials in FSX to best portray the aircrafts surface finish to represent the real world counterparts characteristics , some are matt , others shiny and those panel and rivets and the bump maps that represent them go through several revisions before there is some sort of consensus on the part of the design team and beta testers that we are “ Go “.<o:p></o:p>

Next up i do all the animations and their assignments , then 3D modelled gauge codes and any custom XML visibility conditions or animated bits required and tie all that to the cockpit switches and lighting that go in to that particular aircraft, finally the aircrafts gauges are brought in line with the .AIR files requirements and its off to get further tested by the team for a last time before the real beta tests begin with a wider group to try and spot any deficiencies.<o:p></o:p>

There are currently two aircraft in the pre release beta stage , i see a number of SOH members are involved in vetting these and giving their feedback so improvements can be made and the wishlists presented can in some measure be fulfilled , but one thing is certain it takes a focused team approach to get one of these produced and credit is earned by them all for their efforts.<o:p></o:p>

The YF-23 is through the first stages and currently getting the cockpit animated , its gauges installed . <o:p></o:p>
Here are a few previews of the cockpit as it comes to life , i started with the HUD so it was flyable and was working on the auto pilot yesterday, three of the display screens are done and active. <o:p></o:p>
