KM PB4Y1

SOH-CM-2026
Whilst I was playing around with some alpha B24 repaints, I created some olive drab US Navy PB4Y1 skins ...

... but then I remembered KM's PB4Y.:173go1:

It's a better model, & there are still some mapping issues to sort out, but an early WIP is attached so people get an idea of how it looks.

Before I go much further, I would like to know if a few niggles with how the a/c flies can be resolved (or not).

1) It needs a better airfile - she flies like a dead duck as an AI target, & can't hold a formation at all.

2) KM's a/c used to be frame rate killers, but this one seems OK to me - is this still an issue for many people? Although navy planes flew singly or in pairs, the early squadrons often flew in combined airforce/ navy level bombing missions in the Solomons, or in larger groups on their own, so it needs to perform OK as an AI formation a/c too.

If these things are still problematic, I'll stay with the Alpha repaints, if not, I'll press on with some KM repaints ...

Comments please ...

Drive on Uncle. I've always liked KM's B-24/PBY series of planes.

For an AI only PB4Y, you might try the stock MS B-24 flight model. It works well for AI aircraft.

Hi UT,
KM's B24 with all it's extras ie retracting turret, detailed bomb bay was heavy on the FRs, but I don't know about the PB4Y. The PB4Y looks just as good, as you say it depends on how many you use......

Cheers Shessi

Funny enough I've just been building a mission for this beastie prior to logging on here! VLR search and destroy across the empty Pacific (well not quite empty cos I've spawned some big fat juicy Jap ships in just thge right places). :ichile: Great bombsight but still a challenge with moving targets.......

No probs at all with frame rates for me. Love the bomb sight too - this is a nicely built plane alright.

I think cfs2 runs a treat with everything turned up to max on current pc's - planes that caused a problem back then are fine now - ditto hundreds of objects etc least for me anyways.

Privateer Mission

Here is a PB4Y-2 mission that has gone missing from the library.

It uses all stock planes and ships with the exception of KM's PB4Y-2.

Thanks Jag - More fun at 2500 ft ! Helps if there's not too many escorts though. At that height even light flak is a pain in the backside, and with the PB4Y its not like they can miss is it?

I think the PB4Y pilots had to operate at lower levels to a certain extent as I don't think that the PB4Ys had turbochargers, unlike it's USAAF brother, the B-24.
