A very interesting part of the history!

Nice and neat idea. Love to see an heli & ship expert putting some efforts on realizing it virtually!

"Flettner Fl 282 Kolibri helo + minelayer Drache + MTO"....Cool...now there's a quite a bit of overlooked history.

Good one Baldy!

A nice suprise, many thanks.

I wondered who the site-seer was in the back?? :d

I didn't think it had enough power to carry two people, only a few very small bombs/depth charges?!!

Cheers

Kolibri und Drache

Am uploading two files - one for the eggbeater and one for the ship

Baldy,
As ever, your work is spot on. Thank you! No doubt the landing pad will also serve as a good target.:d

But of course!

The basic design of the Fletner ended up with the US Helicopter company Kaman. They made the HH 43 Husky which used the same contra rotating-side-by-side rotor system. It was just larger with more advanced power plants.

When I was a boy, I thought that it was the weirdest thing in the sky. I didn't understand the advantages of the contra-rotating blades at the time.

Fl 282

I'm uploading the other two versions now - they represent the only Fl282s to fall into US hands at the end of the war - the Russians captured one example and the British found a frame with the rotor shafts.

Found a couple of really interesting sites

http://www.indianamilitary.org/freemanaaf/sothinkmenu/freemanstart.htm

where captured and allied stuff was evaluated and

http://helicopter-history.org/flettner282

for a German and an American film of the Kolibri

plus if you got ot YouTube there's some stuff on the Fa223

I might add some mines to the Drache if I get time

cheers

baldy
