Large Address Aware

I've used a tool called "Large Address Aware," or LAA, for another sim I am running on this machine. The tool was recommended to use with this program (Silent Hunter IV) since it is a rather old program that needed improvements in its video display, and adding LAA to the system resulted in SH4's graphics becoming first-rate, in particular wave and spray animation, ship wakes, and sunlight effects on water.

I am wondering if somehow using LAA with FSX could result in any improvements in the sim's performance. Has anyone here ever tried to run FSX using LAA - or is it even necessary?

Forgot to include, I have 4.0GB of RAM, and a 64-bit system.

It helps, and does so with most 32bit programs. I use it for FSX and for Paintshop Pro in particular.

[32 GB Ram system] ...;)

Blimey - in all these years this is the first time I have ever heard of this. Time to resurrect PSP by Corel which failed under W7 64. :adoration:

You'll still run out of memory....it'll just happen a little later...
When painting aircraft in 4096 I'll typically have half a dozen instances of PSP6 running...and whilst FSX is also - minimized I'll see anything around 92% ram usage.....and I have 32GB of DDR4.
Eg. currently 5 PSPs and one DxtBmp and I'm at 73%

Interesting to read of another utility that helps extend User Virtual Address Space (aka "USERVAS") by 32-bit executables in 64-bit Windows.

Apparently the home page for the above utility can be accessed at:

Another such well-tested utility from a highly-experienced programmer is the "4GB Patch":

BTW: For those still working with 32-bit programs under 32-bit Windows, here's an old tutorial I posted on use of the "/3GB Switch", which allows many (but not all) 32-bit programs to access up to 3GB of User Virtual Address Space (aka "USERVAS"): :icon_idea:

Hope this helps those still working with 32-bit programs under 32-bit Windows as well ! :mixed-smiley-010:
