Leningrad and Finnish Sea progress..

Tobob,

I have thoroughly tested the Leningrad scenery you sent me (the new stuff), and definitely feel that you are on the right track. I like having the objects on the bases removed, however I realize that this will mean that I'll have to create new layouts (with new objects!) for all of these bases. Perhaps you would be so kind as to remove the macros for all the Finnish Sea and move the airfields which are waterlogged, and making new GSL layouts will become my winter project.

This will also include making a true GSL city at Leningrad, as well as the naval base at Kronstadt.

I may have to have you move some of the "Continuation War" airfields which Ajax did, but let's take one step at a time.

Rami,

Your load shouldn't be too bad as only Immola and Malmi are custom textures. The other airports use only 2 generic textures so a couple layout files and your done! :wiggle: Don't worry we will keep you busy all winter!

Awesome!! That's what I was hoping for!:icon_lol:

Tobob,

This is a listing of the airfields from Sander's Finnish Sea airfields and which airfields are water-logged.

These airfields just need their macros removed, unless you find any flatten problems with the surrounding area...

Hepoharju, Humalainen, Heinjoki, Tallinn, Jappila, Kaukjarvi, Klpasi, Kuzmulovskiy, Lavansuari, Mor'ye, Hyvinkaa, Kymi, Malmi, Nummela, Rantasalmi, Vyterga, Uglovo, Udelnaia, Tosno, Suur Merijoki, Sosnovka, Sortavala, Sakkola, Levashevo, Paakkola, Pargolove, Pavlovo, Petajarvi, Piskarevka, Porohovye, and Rompotti.

Check Supercheap Auto Catalogue and Spotlight Catalogue. These airfields need to have their locations altered, because they are at least partially water-logged, in addition to having their macros removed...

Kolkkala, Vyborg Waterbase, Seiskari, Immola, and Lappeenranta.

Tobob,

These airfields are from Ajax's "Continuation War" airfield package. (I will provide a link for you shortly) They do not require any macros to be removed, because they are GSL, but I am going to rework them anyway because they use the same bitmaps.

The link: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=8670

Once again, these are the airfields which need to be moved...

Taipalsaari, Poventsa, and Joroinen.

Good to hear from you RJ!

The object tutorials have helped me greatly! Thank you again! Here's a few WIP's; Russian landmarks, multi-lod with damage models.

Good morning,

Now that I have the scenery, I wish to announce that Tobob and I have entered our latest joint project...GSL Leningrad and Finnish Sea. As you know from installing Rhumbaflappy's new watermasks, it made a mess of Finland and Leningrad. To correct this, some of the old Finnish Sea airbases had to be moved.

In the process of doing so, the object macros built into the original .bgl files were wiped out. This provided a perfect opportunity to rework the bitmaps and match them much closer to the surrounding textures, which tobob did, but also now provides an opportunity for GSL bases where none existed previously.

The Leningrad GSL scenery will also have custom-made, multi-res, destroyable objects, such as the ones displayed by tobob, as well as trestles and bridges. We are working together to help build the city.

Where I will need assistance is from our hard-core researchers. If anyone has any intelligence or especially photographs of what the Finnish bases looked like in terms of equipment, (bunkers, hangars, trees, etc.) I will try to match them up as closely as possible. I have this image of Canion's Kursk (blink and you miss them!) airfields for Finland, but I have NO idea whether my ideas are accurate, and since we have an opportunity to create GSL bases here, I'd like to strive for some authenticity!

Assistance would be most appreciated,

Andy and Tobob,

I have a question for you: Do you need for the city my new urban blocks that I'm now making to be multi-res and destroyable for GSL? If the answer is affirmative, please let me know.

Goodbye!

Affirmative Gius! I'm sure we could put them to good use. :salute:

A lot of Leningrad's architecture was designed by 19th century italian architects.

Hi Tobob,

I knew this fact, because the Czar Peter the Great loved very much Italian art. As far as the objects, I'll post them as soon as possible.

I suggest you also a visit to avsim.ru...in the FS 2002 scenery section, it is available for download a depiction of St. Petersburg as a city with all relevant monuments.

If you want help in converting such scenery, and also in building the city, I'm at disposition.

Best wishes,

Gius

If what you were talking about would be food my mouth would be watering!!

Sounds excelent. I have reread an article in an old National Geographic magazine about Leningrad and it´s origin in the vikings era. In was really very interesting. Including the origin of the "word" slave.

Will be waiting for this to update (or completely redo) my EFTO install.

Thanks to all of you, Discus

Middle,

Thanks...sometimes I feel that the SOH librarian's job is similar to how it feels to be a teacher on some days...the only time you get noticed is when you screw something up. I know it's appreciated, though. :salute:

Thanks Rami for your hard work. You remind me of Droopy. It seems that you can pop up everywhere at the same time! And you even have time for building GLS layouts and rebuild campaigns!!!

Cheers, Discus

Good afternoon,

Okey dokey...well, without intelligence, I'll just rely on my intuition and my imagination. :icon29:
