Letter Carrier Food Drive

A friendly reminder from your "local" mailman. It's that time of year again here in the U.S. If you have a couple of cans or some non-perishable food items just laying about, put it in a bag by your mailbox this Saturday, May 14. With the economy still in the toilet the food banks are desperate for donations. This is a painless way to contribute, and you get to help out some really needy families.

Interesting. I carry mail for a living and we aren't going to be doing it, I don't believe. We certainly haven't had our "talk" about it.

This is unfortunate timing in my area, too, as the local food bank distribution days are tomorrow and friday, so any collection I might make will be too late for this month, and will have to be stored for a month.

We donate money and volunteer our oldest children to help at the FB. We're not in the wealthiest part of the state and there are those that are struggling. This is a good way to help our community, and teach our children a little bit about work and giving of one's self to others.

You may want to talk to your shop steward. Odd that your local hasn't distributed the bags and cards by now. This has been going on since the early '80s every year (even earlier here in Phoenix; we go back to the early 70's before the national union picked it up)

I have a bag for the post, tomorrow..
I am grateful for the Kindness I have received and always try to pass kindness along..

Well, after the food drive that we apparently were never going to participate in, I saw zero, zip, nada on my route. One carrier picked up one small bag of food, and that was from a carrier's house who works out of the Post Office in the next town north.

That is it. Too bad, it sounds like a good way to get more collections for the food banks around. I know there are plenty out there that would benefit.

On the other hand, if I picked up ONE canned good from every box on my route, it would be 46 cases of canned goods. I'd break my suspension.
