Special Server Maintenance
Just when you think you have everything running some what better...
You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.
- November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
- November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
- November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
- November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.
If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.
To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.

Live Weather?

It should be close, but it's never going to be up to the minute accurate. I'm happy as long as it's close. There for a while, live weather wasn't giving any altimeter setting but 29.92 - either it wasn't being fed the pressure from the source, or it wasn't reading it correctly. And this last update finally got rid of the partly cloudy lightning. FS2020 gets its weather from a combination of MeteoBlue and METAR reports. Even the chiefs at MeteoBlue will tell you that it's never going to be 100% right, but they're doing their best to get it as close as possible.

A METAR is a weather estimate, updated at station every 30 minutes or so. The sim's weather was within 3 degrees and a few knots of the station's weather estimate, highly accurate in other words. Wind speed and direction is variable at all times, everywhere on earth. I also noticed that a small pond near where I live was the wrong shade of green - appalling inaccuracy!
