Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick

Dirtman

Tis a sad sad, day in Dirtland .... as my trusty joystick has fought it's last battle and has gone to the great silicon scrap-heap in the sky .... RIP my old friend.

The Logitech Extreme 3D Pro has been my favorite stick for many years, but alas it does have one fatal flaw ..... the centering spring. This self centers the the whole stick, when it breaks the aircraft veers sharply to the left & becomes almost unflyable.
Take it into combat again? Fuhgetaboutit!!

The first time this happened I went to the Logitech site & downloaded all their recalibration software but to no avail. This problem is unrepairable. A replacement spring is not available so she's "done like dinner".
This problem is common to most Logitech joysticks.

I have seen a couple of threads about problems with Logitech joysticks so I just wanted to make this info known to everyone who uses them.

But on the positive side, if you contact Logitech "Tech Support" (toll-free number posted on their website) they will send you a coupon for a rebate on a new one. The dollar amount depends upon how old the stick is. (usually $10-$30)

As for me, today I gotta hop down the local store & grab yet another one.
I don't buy them new; I'll get another "refurbished" unit for the Princely sum of $13 + tax (Kanuck bucks) ..... I know it will crap out again in a couple or 3 years .... so what would ya expect for that price?

If you live in southern Ontario, have a look, Factory Direct have many locations:

I had a sweet deal from Comp USA for 4 years. For the price of $5.00 at the purchase of the first one, they would replace a broken Extreme 3D within 1 year free of charge. I had a new one every year, as they did sort of wear out after 10 months or so. That offer vanished in the breeze as the store did too but it was nice while it lasted.

Hi, man. yep thats the type I have and have 2 of them for 2 different pc's. However, cause I work so much, dont have the time to wear them out. Onlyother stick I had was a gravis stick which i loved at the time and it broke apart. cant put back together again. best to get new one.

Looks like it has too many buttons for me. I would get confused. I have one Logitech with eight or ten buttons and my trusty Saitek with five a swivel stick for rudder, and a hat and throttle.

Buttons rock.

It's all about organization.

On the Stick:

Look Ahead/Hat/Look Back Up
Lk Ahd Left/ ... /Lk Ahd Right
Thumb button = Gunsight view

on the base:

Flaps Up/RPM Up
Flaps Dn/RPM Dn
Wep Sel/Wep Rel

Dirtman back when i was a wet behind the ears middy and first timidly approached this den of air dales, you were kind enough to welcome me in, me and my identical stick, and you helped me set it up. I am sorry to hear about your stick's demise. Hope you can find a replacment pronto. thanks so much for all the help.

I'm on my second one and agree with everything you said. It's like losing a wingman. :USA-flag:

Another Kanuckle-head!!

Thanks for the advice on the Logitech refurbished model. I'll keep that in mind when what I bought yesterday finally fails. It seems to be built at the same factory that makes Logitech, but it goes under the Sector 7 Xtreme brand name.

Yo membrain;

Nice to see yet another Canuck from "Hogtown" in the forum!
Yup I saw the stick last week in the ad. Looks spiffy with all the red on it!

Thanx Crisger & you are very welcome!

Just remember that we were all new here once upon a time!
- Oct 21 was my 4th year anniversary here at SOH

Haven't got the new stick yet .... but will soon. In the meantime I've been playing PT Boats - Knights of the Sea & Need For Speed - Underground 2 ..... having a riot too!!!

I'm a semi-retired auto mechanic .... Recently Rami asked why it's taken me so long to discover the driving games ... the answer was simple .... because as soon as I got into this computer thing (5 yrs ago) someone gave a bunch of flight sims (one being CFS2) .... so I've been preoccupied since then and am just getting around to the other stuff now!

Also figured out what killed the old stick (& the one before that too) I'd been playing a vertical scrolling shooter game called "Demonstar". Typical and very simple "old-guy" game .. left & right, up & down, shoot & bomb.
Now I use a gamepad for that one ... no more stick!!

The Logitech extreme 3d pro is my choice also & really love it.
When my first one finally went belly up , I went through the " DT's " so bad I bought 2 the next time & now I keep one in stock. :icon_lol:
Now I can shop around a little & there's no real traumatic experience in between , just plug ' er in
And " FLY ON "
Good Luck DIRTMAN !

"Yo membrain;

Thanks Dirtman. I'm glad to be back. Thanks for the link to Factory Direct. I've already checked out their locations and the one at College and Spadina will do me fine.

I just recently re-installed my copy of CFS3 and needed a new joystick. I was looking at getting another Logitech but most of the Circuit City locations were sold out. Then I clicked on the Sector 7 model which really fit my price range at $19.99.

It works great. Now to see how long it lasts. When I kill it I'll know where to go get another one.

Thanks again.

Take care.

P.S. I didn't mean to jump into the middle of a CFS2 Forum. I just logged into the Outhouse and searched on Joystick and here I am.

Please don't hold it against me jus because I'm an old CFS3 guy:monkies:

I fly both ways myself :) But CFS2 has such a great community of ppl making new things and much of that just is not possible for the junior sim.

Ya know if ya'd quit whacking that old joystick of yers around so much it wouldn't be so bent and broken. What good's a man's joystick if it ain't got no more spring to it. Reminds me of what Groucho Marx used to say in his old age. "I think its time to go upstairs and bend one in." Thing is, Grouch was rich enough to keep a woman who didn't mind a man who had to "bend" one in. Who ya gonna bend one into now dirtbag?

Wait a minute. This ain't the Playboy forum is it? Sorry Rami, boy that was inappropriate wasn't it. My bad . . . Oh well . . . Whats out there is out there.

I loved mine...while it worked. I have a Saitek now, which I don't like as much, but is completely reliable. Never had a day of trouble with it.

Good point. Once I get back into the swing of things and get MAW properlly installed, I'll have to see if I can pick up a copy of CFS2. I must admit I don't know that much about it but have heard great things from Ken Stallings regarding the CFS2 world.

I started with CFS1. Missed CFS2 and then bougth CFS3 when it was first released to much well desreved $#@%#!!!!!:violent: The good part was I found the Sim-Outhouse to help me get the GD thing sort of running. It's great to see this place still going strong after all these years
