London to Sydney in 4 hours?

I'm sure Barnes Wallis (lok up his achievments on the net), sketched out a plan for ths type of A/C in his own time, (during the war or immediate post-war).

Graham.

if you think airport security is a pita now, just imagine what boarding that plane will be like in 2030. :icon_lol:

Currently, the fastest subsonic executive jet, Gulfstream's new G650 can fly 646 miles per hour and has a top speed of just 704 miles per hour.

i suppose the guys at fox don't proof read their stuff? :isadizzy:
i hope in the near future we'll learn about what technology their talking about. part of it has to be engine technology. the concorde itself wouldn't be cost effective in this day and age, except maybe for the ultra rich.

Willy - It's not very new...variations on the theme appear here downunder on a pretty regular basis - probably related to the timeframe for an Aerodynamics Doctorate at one of our Universities.
Sound theory, great if you can fund the development, but without a couple of miracles in airframe and fuel technology, the seat-mile cost makes them impractical.

So many interesting concepts.

I liked the Biz jet that was a Mach 2 bird. Some mini movies were done of it, computer generated.

A second version of an SST was long since planned after launching the Concordes, but nothing has surfaced.

Some day...

It would be nice to do something really futuristic in propulsion that doesnt hurt the atmosphere, a new fuel, etc.
