'London Trams, 1950s'

I live quite close to the old Brixton Hill tram depot, pass it on journeys into town quite often; I often wonder if any of my fellow passengers even notice this building, let alone realise what it was used for.

And, of course, trams are enjoying a renaissance here, with networks in South London (soon to be expanded), Docklands (you can call it a light railway if you want - we know it's a tram really), Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Newcastle, Blackpool (which is a part of the original 1950's network) and the Edinburgh network finally looks to be going ahead after years of delays & bad decisions; and the Irish have one in Dublin as well, the LUAS, which as proved to be a great success. So, definitely a case of back to the future on this side of the Atlantic.

I rode the trams in Blackpool many times as a wee sprog on holiday. I loved the 'special' ones built to look like steam locos, space ships or US paddle-wheel steamers. They were especially eye catching when lit up at night.
