Long lasting friendships....

My best friend from high school (way back in 1972) and I have stayed in contact throughout the years, no matter where we lived. Sometimes years would pass, but we've remained in touch. I spent this past Sunday with him and his daughter, Laura, who I'd never met. Had a great visit, and loved watching the interaction between my buddy Dale and his daughter. You could see the love she has for him, each time she looked at him. He's a great dad.

Pete...Friendships like that only come every so often.... Good friends are hard to come by...

As a father it touched me that you say the interaction between father and daughter...

I have two daughters about her age ...I would love to think that others see that in us..

Thanks for sharing that....

Good to hear, Pete! I had a buddy of mine that I went to grade school thru Junior High with and we moved to another town. Didn't hear from him for nearly 15 years and he read in the paper that my father had passed. He made some calls, located me, and even after
all that time, picked right up where we left off in Junior High. It's something you carry with you no matter where you go.

I graduated from High School in 1965. The day after the ceremonies, I boarded an airplane to join my family in the MidWest. I have not seen nor talked with any High School classmates or friends from my High School days since.

Sometime last year I joined Facebook, and about four months ago I got this PM. It was from the girl (now a wife, Mom and Grandmother) I took to my first prom during my Junior year in High School. She and I lived in the same apartment complex, and would often study together and play pool (they had a game room back then). She is my only contact with my high school days.

Anyways, we chat frequently on Facebook - getting caught up on the last 45 years. It's like old times all over again.

You can have many acquaintances but there is nothing like a real friend or two. You are blessed Chief.

That is great you all were able to get together. My best friend and I have known each other since we were toddlers, We went to grade school, junior high, high school and college together. Our wife's our best friends also. We have lived hundreds of mile apart since we left college but we always get together ever couple of years. It is great to have friends like that.

It is a great blessing to have these long term frienships..
I have several in my life some going back to kindergarden(5yrs old)..
Both men and women..
One of my dearest friends has been with me since basic training in the army..
But I must say, You Must be a Friend to keep your friends..
and many have come and gone..
But there are those who for whatever unknown reason have been with me most of my life.
Some have passed on and are no longer alive with me
But in My heart they will always be..
And I am truly Grateful to Them and God for this..

I guess I am truly blessed. I see many of my old classmates on a regular basis as they nor I ever left the area. And twice each year, we adjourn for reunions at VIR and the Yanceyville Hoedown.

My best friend since second grade and I regularly attend baseball games all over. He coaches HS football in Eden, NC. I even have him riding a bicycle, but I can't get the sucker to do hills! He's divorced now, has a 38 YO son in Raleigh and is a grand pappy to two.

Around here, old friends are family, I guess it is a rural Southern tradition.

i always wanted a daughter, but God, in His wisdom gave me sons.
He knew i would spoil a daughter and be completely under her spell. heck, if my stepdaughter ever figures out how good she could have it, we're all in trouble :icon_lol:
