Looking for a GREAT bipe... suggestions please!

Was there ever an official service pack, does anyone know?

Not as far as I know, though in my opinion there should have been. I can't believe that the instrumentation on the original was as sparse as in the Vertigo version.

Or of course Ant's beautiful Tiger Moth! Here in my favourite livery..

Love that plane and paint :wavey:

Funny I was just flying the TM the other day... there are two models Model. and model.round dones anyone know what the difference is between the two... I looked but nothing jumped out at me

I flew the Alabeo YMF5 to St. Bart's from St. Maarten.... 1000 feet, in and around passing rain squalls, during the early sunset. Totally captivating, so much so that I had to fly back... With lengthening shadows and the special extra darkness reserved for the moments before the sun finally disappears.... We flew a carrier approach to slip in over the fence.... I love this plane! The only consistent negative is the ultra light to almost non-existent rudder input in flight. How can I fix this? Is there a known modification? Can I edit the .cfg to reduce effectiveness of the vertical fin and increase adverse yaw? This aeroplane is too good not to perfect!

TIA- C

Here's a very nice and free little biplane you might enjoy:

Brilliant stuff- there are some real gems here!

I am fairly smitten with the Alabeo Waco at the moment, and can't stop island hopping here all around St. Marten. That said, the rudder issue continues to bother me. Is there a chance of contacting someone who would be able to tweak the .air / .cfg files for me? Is it legal to do so? I do not plan on doing anything with the result to earn a single Dollar- rather, I would be most willing to compensate some talented individual who might fancy a small project.

This Bipe is pretty wonderful, and but for this glaring characteristic, would be almost perfect for what I want to do- which is poke around Orbx land at 1000' or less, whilst giving my "virtual" goggles a wipe down every now and then ;).

Any pointers.... is http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/forums/flight-dynamics.65/page-2 or http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/forums/project-recruiting.108/ a place to start, or is there someone here that could assist? Perhaps someone has already done a replacement FDE for the Waco.... any thoughts... please?

just an observation, but, with such a larger surface as that one, wouldn't it have a very pronounced effect in real life also? i'm totally not a pilot, i'm just guessing.

While I do not have any time in a Waco, I do have a considerable amount of Taildragger time. My feet have never been able to fall asleep, as they can in the Alabeo Waco. I appreciate your thoughts, however, I would still like to explore the option of improving the .air file.

In the aircraft.cfg is a section that allows you to make modifications. Back up your original cfg first.

[flight_tuning]
cruise_lift_scalar = 1.0
parasite_drag_scalar = 1.0
induced_drag_scalar = 1.5
elevator_effectiveness = 1.0
aileron_effectiveness = 1.0
rudder_effectiveness = 1.0
pitch_stability = 1.0
roll_stability = 1.0
yaw_stability = 1.0
elevator_trim_effectiveness = 1.0
aileron_trim_effectiveness = 1.0
rudder_trim_effectiveness = 1.0
p_factor_on_yaw = 0.5
torque_on_roll = 0.5
hi_alpha_on_roll = 0.5
hi_alpha_on_yaw = 0.5
gyro_precession_on_yaw = 0.5
gyro_precession_on_pitch = 0.5

Try making rudder effectiveness = 0.5 and see if this suits you better.

Roger-

THANK-YOU! I will try this tonight and report back. If the fix is this easy I shall be most pleased!

@Roger-
What a brilliant and SIMPLE SOLUTION! I changed, as suggested to 0.5 and doing some circuits and bumps- found me feet had to waken from their usual slumber in the Waco- fantastic- ta! I'm curious, did you experiment and settle on 0.5 as the best value in the Waco or was it just a suggestion.... it seems great tbh.

@Cody-
A true gem- I shall spend some time with this old girl as well... very appreciated!

Glad it worked for you, C! I think I left it as it is as once off the ground it tends to be ailerons unless I'm side slipping....:bee:

@Roger-

Yes, I am too used to using my feet to leave it as is is.... an old taildragger pilot from way back ;).

I am still experimenting, thinking about going down to 0.4.... will keep you abreast of happenings....perhaps tweaking the "yaw" values will also assist in capturing the moment I want to...

Can't believe I'm the only person experiencing this issue with the Alabeo Waco.... but at least your post has me moving in the right direction.

There aren't enough good quality biplanes in FSX. I've flown a number in RL, and most of the addons for our sim just aren't really up to snuff.

Don't like the Alabeo Waco. Don't really like any of the Alabeo planes for flight characteristics.

Ant's Tiger Moth is a good plane. GAS Ryan PT-22 is actually a very nice open cockpit bird, although not a biplane of course. I don't think it works in P3D, but Sibwings Pitts is probably the best biplane made for FSX. A real jewel.

I definitely have plans to check out Ant's Tiger Moth.

Also, I appreciate the information about Sibwings' Pitts having spent time with Marion Cole's N29MC before her unfortunate demise :(.

I just bought the An-2 and can confirm she's the most beautiful, ugly aeroplane in the world. I am planning on spending the next few days cramming the FCOM. An incredible simulation.... really the bees' knees!

Keep this stuff coming folks, there's just something about the sky framed in two wings.... Even if they are as stout and utilitarian as a Muscovite Duck :).

Best- Carl

Perhaps the Sibwings AN-2

I can't believe I forgot the SIbwings AN-2. Absolutely the best biplane out there, and one of the best planes period. Wonderfully and realisitically modeled! A dream to fly.

So, having flown the GAS PT-22 a fair bit lately, I'd like to get another one of their planes. The Ryan is nicely modeled, both visually and in terms of flight dynamics. Which of the GAS planes are the best? I do require 3D gauges and nice graphics, but realistic flight characteristics are the top priority. As a real world pilot, I have no patience for the usual "close enough" flight dynamics of many FSX addons. A2A, Sibwings, and RealAir have spoiled me. That's why I don't fly the Alabeo birds I've bought, and rarely fly Carenado anymore.

GAS suggestions?
