Looking for a P-40

Concerning seeing the prop from inside the plane...are you using 2D or VC view? In 2D view, the prop is not visible. In VC view, the prop blur should be visible.

Also if you've got one that you already like everything but the sounds in, look under Lawdog in the addons. If it's a WW II fighter, odds are he's done a soundset for it. Matter of fact, I believe he did the sounds for the d-ware P-40s.

Edit: Bruce Thorson's is nice too, but I can't keep the engine running for very long without blowing it up...

You got to keep the boost pressure down Willy!

Yep...that Allison was prone to going BOOM if it was over revved or ran with too much manifold pressure. And Bruce's P-40s really mimic that fact very well...at least from what I have heard of the FS2004 versions. The converted CFS2 version can be flogged like a mule and it will keep going...not sure if that is due to the air file or the fact that CFS2 doesn't have the multi-faceted flight dynamics that FS2004 does.

I use both views but I'm really a fan of the virtual cockpit. The Savoia Marchetti has incredible props that are totally different than Ive seen on any model. I wish I could import that to the rest of my fleet.

Dumb question but how are you guys getting engine failures? I guess I'll have to dig through and see what does what a little better. The only time I get engine failures is on the P-38 when you use too much WEP.

Normally the engine failure is built into the model such as in dcc's P-38 if you run it on the WEP over 5 minutes (I think) it burns up the engine. I don't thinke the donationware P-40 has engine damage built into it. I ran it in the South American Multiplayer event earlier this year and ran it WOT constantly with no failures.

It took me some trial and error to get the hang of Bruce's engine limits (I don't read flight manuals as often as I should). I NEVER go over 40" map/2700 rpm and reduce power to 35"/2400 as soon as safely clear of the ground. I always cruise at or below 30"/2200 at altitude, usually between 12,000 and 18,000 ft. Since I started observing these limits I have not had an engine failure.
