Looking for some Beaver :)

With my recently growing addiction to the Orbx World, and my love affair with the An-2, I would appreciate any suggestions for a superb P3D V3.5 Beaver. The Milviz one looks lovely, but i understand is not yet available.

From the current offerings, what is the best option? For me, much more important than variant (floats) ability is the flight characteristics/model.....

Also, if there is some other superb bush plane I ought to look at, please chime in! I have and love the Aerosoft Twotter- which I habitually fly the St. Maarten, St. Bart's, Saba rotation in....

Ta!

I guess I'm the only one here still in love with the default Beaver ? :p

Else, there are quite a few good floatplanes for P3D. If you're not in a hurry, the Accusim Cub on floats is quite pleasant.
The Aerosoft Beaver, I never bought it.... Somehow, the textures and the virtual cockpit of the default Beaver were more beautiful to my eyes...

Yes, i agree! I bought the Aerosoft Beaver and i was quite deceived but it was the only model for FS2004 and FSX on wheel and, last but not least the 2 versions for the same price!

I am also waiting for the Milviz Beaver. There are some VC shots around which also look amazing, but I do not have a link.

Milviz do have some interesting stuff on the go. This page shows the modelling on the vc but no textures yet:

But as the exterior is looking like this....

I doubt that you'll be disappointed! Have a look around at their other projects. The C130 cockpit shots look pretty spectacular and I'll be interested how their SR-71 turns out.

Maybe not SOON yet but wait for this bird:

I think the default Beaver is probably the best freebie that's ever come with the sim. That said.. I bought the Aerosoft BeaverX (I wanted wheels too) and it's a fair bit of kit. Similar in many ways to the FS9 version so if you liked that.. this one won't disappoint. Be ready to have your HD full of Beavers though. Loads of models.. loads of paints.. too many if you ask me. Also.. the British Army paint is still has a back-to-front fin flash on the LH side. Nice to fly, very easy on FR's, decent sounds. A bargain in a sale:encouragement:

Since you are a fan of the Sibwings An-2, do you have the Sibwings Bird-dog Cessna? There is a free float version you can add after buying the Bird-dog.
Check their website for information about it.

To answer your question: No, I too like it a lot. I mainly fly it with the textures done by Henry Williams (HenryW).

Cheers,

Never noticed that, but now I feel the urge to fix it!

Regarding the forthcoming MV version, I hope they add 2-bladed models (inc. AL1) and droppable stores...

I've been looking at- http://milviz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5652&start=0
and salivating.... Any VC photos about?

Has Kat given us any ideas about possible release timeframes?

BTW I have my old FSX Simobjects Beaver folder... Will it work just by adding into P3D?

Best- Carl

There are effects too, Aerosoft_Beaver_Start.fx, and Aerosoft_Beaver_Smoke.fx . There is also a DHC2 Beaver folder in FSX\Aerosoft that needs to be moved. Still an easy job.

Yep, there are, there is the VirtualCol Otter but you will have to apply the fixes I posted elsewhere on the FSX Forum but it was the next step up for De havilland Canada.
Then there is the; Pilatus Porter (Look for the Piglet version), Shorts Twin Pioneer and Shorts 360, Twin Otter (Aerosoft), the Caribou (Virtavia) and the Islander (Flight 1?) and off course the early C-130 (Captain Sim). If your interested in heavy metal. They are all true STOL bush planes, although a lot of others especially Cessnas were used for bush or remote area flying. The FSX Default Maule is not bad either. There is of course the venerable DC-3/C-47 which did a lot of rough bush work in its time. So there is a lot to choose from.

FWIW a lot of bush strip operation is in the flying technique which is not widely known or practised by pilots unless they continuously operate in that environment. Essentially your speed and attitude control and knowledge of the aircraft has to be spot on and I mean spot on, if you bring an Islander across the fence into less than 500ft landing area, you have to be a the precise touchdown speed for the last 300 ft and I mean precise (not a knot more or less). And your mastery of the craft is really going to be challenged in high winds or crosswinds. A true STOL aeroplane can get into and out of 1000 ft of dirt or less and 2000ft for something heavier and bigger. It is all part of the fun. I flew STOLs for 5 years for real and it was the most enjoyable and challenging flying I ever did and I still do it in the sim for fun.

The other thing is all STOL or bush aeroplanes are slow and have limited range and it takes forever to go from A to B, thats the downside, the upside, most had great cockpit vision and all round vision, were tough and lifted a hell of a load for their power. The Beaver I called a two speed aeroplane, 65 and 90 knots, you took off and climbed out at 65 and cruised at 90 and approached and landed again at 65, simple numbers to remember and the FSX version is just fine by me. But give me the Twin Otter any day, as much as like radials, twin PT6's provided something special, power to go!

You can have simulated wheels on the default Beaver if you want. It requires an edit of the aircraft.cfg and it becomes an amphibian, from the cockpit at least. There's no graphics for the mod, so when you look at it from the outside on a runway, it looks like it's floating in the air about a foot off the runway. Otherwise it behaves just like an amphibian. You use the "G" key to raise and lower the gear.
I don't remember the exact line in the contacts that's changed but here's my contact points, just copy & paste with the usual backup precautions :)

I do have the new(er) Aerosoft Twotter, and default Maule and like them both. IRL I have some time in the M-6 as well as the 150TD, 152, 160, 170, 172, 175, 182 & 180.... I owned a 7AC for a fair bit, so TDs are just my cuppa.

The upcoming Milviz Beaver and the Aerosoft Porter do look great. In the meanwhile I shall explore your suggestions- Ta!
