Looking for the best Korean War sim

Hello all,

Some of you may know me from the FS9 forum ...

I know this being a CFS2 forum, there is some natural preference for that particular sim - but I'm hoping for as unbiased, honest feedback as can be be had.

I had CFS2 years ago (2001) and after finishing the stock campaign, tossed it. I know - what was I thinking? I know have a serious interest in a Korean War combat sim experience - maybe some Suez action. 1950's late props/early jets is what I fly in FS9, similar interests insofar as combat simming.

I have SFP1 - did the Korean War mod a few years back - it was ok.

Q1: Should I hunt down CFS2 - it's not cheap in Canada/US - I've seen it on Ebay for $40+?

Q2: Given a limited amount of time for tinkering, how does it compare with FS9? I add repaints, aircraft cfg edits, have added umpteen tweaks and mods - but have not edited models or repainted - that's my level of skills (or lack thereof). So to go from out of the box CFS2 to a nicely individualised set up featuring Korea and other period conflicts - how much pain?

Many thanks!!

DL, good news.

First, CFS2 is available on Amazon for a moderate price, both new and used. I do not have anything to do with ThiefBay. I've exposed several crooks selling newly made replica American Indian artifacts as "antique" for thousands of dollars. I've had 3 "PaPal" accounts that were hacked into 3 times. Also I am boycotting ThiefBay due to their firearms policies and also PayPal because they will do no firearms related transactions. Amazon I have heard is affiliated to ThiefBay, fine. You can find any of the MS CFS games on Amazon very reasonably priced. I've NEVER made a purchase off Amazon that I was displeased with. They police their vendors and resellers strictly, at least I have had no problems.

If you want a good Korean War sim, get CFS2 off Amazon and then go here for starts:

http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2korea.htm

FoxFour is dedicated to the Korean War. Aeroplane Heaven has their F9F Panther, all 35 meg, free for downlaod.

The open files here, at the Outhouse, and Simviation have many Korean War aircraft. But with no doubt hit FoxFour first

Korea/Vietnam are a very minor interest for me, I do believe I have downloaded the complete site at FoxFour for missions, fixes, aircraft, ships, etc. however. For the future.

I hope this gives you a start.

You can go from a stock CFS2 install to a very nice Korean War install in very short order and with relative ease. The Fox Four Group has an entire site dedicated to turning CFS2 into the Korean War. Planes, scenery, missions, AI, carriers. Korean War era prop planes and jets.

Check it out:

OBIO

PLEASE....PLEASE....

Install Fox4 zips in the correct order, the campaigns are self installing and contain everything you need, but you have to install the first 3 zips and the first campaign for the remaining campaigns to function properly.

Korea

CFS 2 handles the Korean War very well and lots of addons are available for the theater including mesh for the mountainous terrain, airfields, airplanes and ships.

Yes Korea is AWESOME in the CFS2 virtual world....it is one of six installs i presently run. Thumbs up to Fox Four!!!!!

You will need this http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=10144

and http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=10885 A highly modified oparea.dat file for the mission builders where you can get to the Korea Area of Operation quickly!

for Campaigns for the Korean war here http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2korea1a.htm

Here is Collin Shipyard Website mostly dedicated to the Korean war.

I think you are set to develope and to fly in the Korean war!:ernae:

Great responses - I hope this is also helping others contemplating a similar experience.

OK - so assuming I get the game - any patches? For example, FS9 has a major patch, etc.

Next, will the Korean War mod replace the PTO campaign? Will I be able to fly the stock campaign, or better yet, some other PTO action (Burma, etc.) I would likely fly British/Canadian operations as my preference.

thanks,

dl

Hi DL, Fox4's campaigns will not replace the PTO action, but we do earnestly suggest that you have a separate install of cfs2 for our campaigns.
The campaign "Ocean Fury" is fought from the British side.

There are further mods available for the different aircraft used in the campaigns from our extra's page.

CFS2 has a plethora of mods and addons from different sites, depending on what you want.

You can also fly in different install to able to fly in different Era or you can fly in the same CFS2 Install. Its your choice. You never lose anything with CFS2 but always gain.

I have over Seven install represening differents eras or different WW2 Theaters of Operation myelf.

1.PTO
2.ETO/Western Front
3.Eastern Front
4.MTO
5.WW2 in General
6.Korea
7.SCW
9.World war one.
10. A backup original CFS2 install
11.CFS2 install for testing new things

I have over one thousand planes install all those CFS2 Install in many Hangars spread out in as many CFS2 Install.

You see the possibities are almost endless with this program.

I recommend you get this program that will give YOU this possibility by having over seventeen Hangars per Install. Its call ACman and its in the CFS2 sections /Utilities at http://fly.to/mwgfx

Just remember that you can only install 90 to 100plane per Hangars and that you also need the Original plane per Hangar for it to work properly.:ernae:

Also, go to Razbam website to get cfs 2 products for Korea. specifically, the Banshee and skyraider. I have them for thirdwire's strike fighers and cfs 2. They are awesome in boh sims. You wont be disappointed. its payware but worth it.

Hello dswan,

I got the Banshee for FS9 right when it came out Is the CFS2 pack a separate purchase?

thx

DL,

I just checked my library and my Banshees are marked FS 9, CFS 2, FSX and SF. Seems like I got them at the same time for the same purchase price as I wouldn't have bought the FSX and SF version unless they came as part of a package.

It and the RAZBAM Skyraider are some of my favorite planes for both CFS 2 and FS 9. For Vietnam, their A4 Skyhawk is also very nice.

2. Battle of France
3.China-Burma-India
4.Dutch East Indies
5.Finland
6.Korea
7.North Africa
8.Levert
9.Madagascar
10.Malta
11.Poland
12.Russia
13.Spain
14.WW1
15.Europe 1

Pacfic 1 has the invasion of the Philippines like " Bataan, Luzon and 87days of tha Cactus Airforce."

so I guess this makes me weird???

bretnutz, No the problem is not yours, it is the dadgummed politicians during WWII contracting with so many aircraft builders to build all those different airplanes for the war!

It is M$ for making CFS2 so limited in scenery and planes and ships and frame rates!

So, brother, it is not us........IT IT THEM!:monkies:

Thanks Jagd,

It's been so long, that I've actually lost the original installer during a HDD crash, and all I have is the actual installed plane, not the complete package. Will have to talk to Ron and see what I can do.

Really impressive install assembly, bret - you have me thinking about a Spain campaign - my parents immigrated from Spain, and both of their dads fought in the war on the Republican side - I had no idea that conflict was modeled .... I need to get laid off from work to really explore this sim ... :icon_lol: ...
