Looking for the best Korean War sim

DL,

When you talk to Ron, ask him about the update package for the Banshee if you don't have it already. I was never able to access it even though I have the pre-update F2H.

F4

The Fox Four Korean campaigns may have been around for a bit, but I have to agree that they remain an extremely worthwhile addition to CFS2. These packages offer all of the advantages of being flawless self-extracting files with no unresolved issues and totally self-contained, without you having to run all over hell finding needed addons. For high FPS, great missions and fantastic playability, these campaigns can't be beaten. They remain the best blended compromise between practical gaming and rivet-counting that I have seen in CFS2. Even with the large number of upgrades available on the Extras page at Fox Four, I've found only one that really contributes to the playability of the campaigns and that is the LOD model file for the F-86s used in The Hunters. http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2korea.htm

Hooray - Got the sim today - $15 complete with 2 CDs and book .... yeehaw!!! I know wyat you're thinking - it's sometimes it's hard to believe that a 39 year old, father of two, running a business ... still get excited about a pc game ...

Great tip Nole - I'm going to start with a clean install, and then Fox Four my way back in time to Korea ... :)

Hi Bret,

Can you please tell me where I can find the India/China/Burma Campaign? I've searched the "British" campaigns here in the CFS2 downloads, but find no such item.

Many thanks!

Delta Lima,

For CBI campaigns, search for:

China Air Task Force (CATF)
American Volunteer Group (AVG)
CBI Aces
God is my Copilot
AVG_Rangoon
Flying Tigers

I think that Betnutz was referring to separate installations of CFS 2. Many of us have separate installations to get around CFS 2's limitations on aircraft numbers in any single installation.

As you know, the CBI was mainly an Army theater with little involvement from the Navies of either side. With a separate CBI installation, you can get rid of many of the Navy planes in your aircraft folder and concentrate on Army planes like P-40s and Oscars.

For CBI airfields, be sure to get Xavier's East Asia Airfields. It's here in the library and covers Thailand, East India, Indochina, Malaya, China and Burma.

I am in a Banshee........Over the USS Coral Sea....

For me........its simple.......

I am in a Banshee, over the USS Coral Sea..........I have US WWII surplus 250lbs and Navy rockets...........some trees, mountains, Kwanset Huts.........a bridge and Flak/AAA coming up at me

I am in Korea.......

Not at all. I still get excited when I move from FS9 to CFS2 or back and discover new things which remind me just how good both are. For example it was several years before I actually saw someone bail out and drop a way before the chute opened in CFS2, and only last week I saw a windfarm for the first time in FS9.

F9f Panther............main Character in Toko-ri

Fox Four's F9F was the inspiration and main character for Toko-ri Guantlet run.........

So when I was in a Freeware Panther.......... I was in the download
JWB Grumman F9F-2 Panther USS Bunker Hill (CV-17)..... I was going to Korea......

Great self installers........and you get alot with it......highly recommend....historically correct......

I came along with a Banshee for a attempt at a Korea vintage jet.......later....and its a pain to install........well ....semi painfull...and I have to download a bunch of other ....non historic scenery and ships........just for the eye candy....

Have any of ya'll had experience with the just flight people? I am in need of a new disc cause my foot found mine last night when I was moving stuff around. And they have a combo pack for CFS2 and Korean Combat Pilot or Sabre vs MiG Double as a double pack for 25 bucks plus 7 bucks shipping. Thinking of picking that up since my copy of mig alley is MIA at this time. Worth it?

I have been very happy with Just Flight - good service and good support. Their double packs are good value, but I think I am right that the two Korea packs won't work together (though obviously you could extract the aircraft) and one, though I forget which, doesn't like Windows XP. At least one of the two is Flight1, so in Texas you might get cheaper delivery.

Ok out of Saber vs Mig or Korean Combat pilot which pack should I choose? 7 dollars is not bad for shipping these days.

I'm pretty sure that Korean Combat Pilot used CFS 1 planes converted to CFS 2 while Saber V. Mig has CFS 2 aeroplanes. The CFS 2 planes have better detail and modeling.

Not only does Sabre v. Mig have better Migs and Sabres, but it also has a great flyable F-51 Mustang (the same Mustang as in their Double Trouble pack) with both USAF and ROK textures. It also has several airbases placed throughout the Korean peninsula.

One nice thing about both packs is that they come with several AI aircraft that you can use with the Flight 1 missions, but also with missions you make up with the Mission Builder.

I like sabre Vs Mig. It's a great campaign. Also there is some addon missions for it at flightstim. A campaign called Migs over Korea, and some missions for the USAF F-51D.

KCP has a nice Bell 47 and a Sea Fury, though (and Firefly? I forget). One has an F-84, but I forget which.
