• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

  • Server side Maintenance is done. We still have an update to the forum software to run but that one will have to wait for a better time.

Looking Good

Looking good - I like it!

Sorry, guys:
What's this excitement all about?
Everything still is in place. All the signatures, avatars, PMs and all the other stuff!

Well: The buttons look different - so what?

It's our Outhouse after all!

I shared migrations and upgrades on other boards before, but I never ever experienced a board change as smooth as this one.

Thank you so much for your hard work, Ickie (and the other ones involved)! :applause:

Cheers,
Markus.

Yep. So it looks different ... get over it ...

Man! Some people would b*tch if you hung em with a new rope. (*insert slap forehead smiley here*)

I think these men have done a Great job..
It is a FREE site..Unless you have given to this place and are supporting however you can I don't see anyone has a right to complain..

I am unemployed, and have No Income,, But when God grants me the ability I shall send what i can..
And even with the changes, it is still the BEST site to get FREE items..
BRAVO TO THE TEAM, AND THANK YOU for EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE TO ENHANCE OUR FLIGHT SIMMING....

Thanks Feng,

My font on my Quick reply did change a little bit.... (still small but I can manage)

if you're in Firefox, press Cntrl and + together...it'll increase the font size. Use "-" to decrease it...

im sure the same thing is true in Explorer and Safari (mac)...

I use Ctrl+Mousewheel to resize the screen in IE8. although Ctrl and +/- combination works also... In fact, now that IE8 has managed to not only catch up with and pass Netscape in features, I rarely use Netscape any longer for anything...

Bill,

The same technique works for Firefox ( I have removed IE from this machine ) but my feeling
is why should one HAVE to use that workaround to view a forum comfortably?

To the others:

The text size it TOO small, period. The old, big, blue and black text was ideal.

Something like this...or even this...is alot better than....this...

The delineation between the "sticky area" and the regular posts is no longer as obvious as
it used to be. It is more difficult to see the difference between the read/unread posts.
In general, it is just more difficult to "scan" the forum listings.

The colors used throughout are really not to my liking.

I'm sorry if some of you feel that because it's "free" one should not voice any
displeasure but that doesn't wash with me. These are my opinions and I am
entitled to have them and WILL share them.

Paul

Let's all take a break from the bitching and moaning and give Ickie and crew some time to iron out the weird stuff. The new format hasn't even been up for 24 hours fer cryin' out loud.

Nice work, admins!

Bugs discovered:
- Clicking "Reply to Thread" doesn't do anything, say getting me to the advanced reply screen.
- Multiquote does not work.

Yet so far, everything is a-ok. A lot faster than before as well!

I don't even see a multi-quote button...where am I missing it?

It looks like there is text-wrapping functionality from the image formatting window... It's cool that you can resize images, and title them too.

I like what I see so far!:applause:

Yeah! Text wrapping does work! (Also, mouse over the picture, and it automatically displays the information you entered.)

Considering the fact that last night I expected to not see anything for days I must say that seeing this much progress a day later is great! I would imagine that pretty soon there will be options available to customize how the forum looks...until then I will still be very happy with what I have now. Many Thanks to the SOH staff members working hard to improve things! :ernae:

We went through this same change over a year ago on one of the bike forums that I help moderate and there was discontent from the masses there as well. But when you stop to consider the reasons for it, it all makes sense. The old forum software was hacked and the server could no longer handle the load, if left alone it was doomed to failure. I'd rather have a forum that takes some getting used to than no forum at all.

Believe me when I say that the porting over of the forums is no easy task and the job that has been done here is to be commended. I share the same sentiments on the background color being too bright and washing out the text, but it seems to be that all the new software has this bold new format. I don't know of anyway to change it and the only solution we have been able to offer on the motorcycle forum is get used to it or leave and some left, but most have come back as we are the only real source for that bike on the net, even the factory techs look to us for help. Just my dos centavos.

New Format Review

This site is free. It was upgraded at no cost to me. It has lots of great/knowledgeable people posting. It probably will prevent some of the recent hacking nonsense. There was essentially no time lost. Many people are working behind the scenes to provide all this support. Help and information is always available. Improvements will be made over time.
FANTASTIC PLEASE CONTINUE TO DO WHAT YOU DO THANK YOU SO MUCH TO THE SOH TEAM

I like the new look, it looks sharp and modern. I agree, it was a lil disconcerting the first couple of days but after spending some time looking around, I've found out how to do everything I did before and then some. And I cant wait to try the online flying server, hopefully this weekend. WTG Ickie and everyone that helped.

well, laugh at me if you want but i just now figured out how to get in here :icon_lol:
either way, i'm just happy y'all are still lettin me in.
to celebrate, i had pizza and ice cream for breakfast :jump:

Don't overdo it, Ickie, please

:salute:I realize there is too much to do but, Ickie, please take care of yourself first. You are too much of a valuable resource to risk another period like last summer - remember? (I went through the same thing at about the same time so I know)

Frankly I don't like the new look at all,
but then again I'm one of the few who immediatly sets the desktop to "classic windows 2000 style" on a new OS.
You just can't beat the clear structure of a good 2000-style working environment as opposed to the XP-and-above entertainment crap look.

Ouch, that 'mouse over pic' thingy is a real pain- is that a script I can block ?

Another oddity, my old pic attachments- I assume they're 'blocked' from view as they still show the names and filesize in the attachment management screens, but having moved them to my newly created album I still cant see the pics.

No hurry fixing either issues tho, I just want to recover a couple images I don't have copies of.
