Lost Hawiian air field

New high density military housing has gone up on Ford Island and probably Ewa by now - 18 months ago the remains of Ewa's two runways were still visible on final approach to Honolulu's reef runway, but were surrounded by construction.

You know what... I would be one to say a thousand shames for building over those runways... but it's time to move on now... people need places to live... and if you aren't using the field... then use the land for better purposes...

Besides... we still got the hangars and stuff on Ford Island... there's a lot left at Pearl Harbor... it's just that sometimes you have to measure what you might gain by what you might lose...:bump:

Bob,

Very nice!

It may not have been built at the time of Pearl Harbor, but from what I read on the link above, it may have been under construction and thus would not be out of place for the PHP project.

From what I found out it was under construction at the time but not active.Barbers Point NAS was in the same situation, under construction but yet not ready to receive aircraft along with MCAS EWA.IT was decided just before DEC. 7TH to complete MCAS EWA that is why EWA was hit DEC. 7TH. AT 1ST Barbers Point was to be used as an NOLF for Ford Island NAS but just after the attack it was decided to turn Barbers Point into a full NAS. for training and squadron work up.Another Field that was hit but no one hears about it was John Rogers Field. This field was a civi field that was taken over right after the attack. While not a military field at the time of the attack John Rogers Field lost its fixed base opeater when he ran out to see what was going on and was killed by enemy fire. The reason Most of the fields look kind of dusty is because most were still eather under construction but able to land aircraft or just completed and just becomming operational. The US only had about 300 Military airfields in the US at the start of the war but by 1945 we had over 1500 airfields in the US.:typing:

Beautiful Bob. Looks like I'll need to station a few squadrons there. Is the Base Exchange and the Class VI (Liquor) store in place yet?
