Low Memory Error

Okay, I’ve tried the usual fixes and come up empty.
I have a new PC which runs MSFS2020 quite well with no memory issues nor screen freezes or any other issues. I just don’t like how complicated it is to fly.
So, I installed FSX and made the mods to bring it up to Orbx add-on mesh, landclass upgraded graphics and airports which run fine on my older less powerful PC.
On my newer, more powerful pc FSX stops midflight saying it is out of memory.
I’m running with 32Gb RAM, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X CPU, Nvidia RTX 3060 6Gb graphics card. 2 SSD HDs @ 2TB of storage each.
There is no way FSX should not run like a champ on my machine.
Any ideas?

FSX is a 32-bit program, so it can address a maximum of only 4 GB of RAM. FSX Steam Edition is far better at managing its memory usage than boxed versions of FSX, but load enough scenery, AI traffic, and maybe a highly detailed add-on aircraft and even the Steam Edition can fill and exceed that 4 GB limitation.

Hi,
As Stansdds already said, the problem is the 4GB limitation of VAS (Virtual Access Space) of FSX. VAS has actually nothing to do with what we all think of as 'memory' (RAM) but it is useful to think of it as a space on your hard drive reserved for running FSX. If you haven't already done so, open your fsx.cfg file and under the [graphics] section add the line HIGHMEMFIX=1. This entry is already the FSX Steam cfg but Microsoft omitted to include it in the basic fsx.cfg and without it FSX is likely to give an OOM (Out of Memory) error well before the 4GB limit is even reached.
You will still need to be cautious however when using high demand scenery and addon aircraft but you can mitigate this to an extent by using a scenery cfg configurator so that only the scenery areas you are planning to use for a particular flight are active. I have all the Orbx products added for FSX and I can generally fly them without problems even in fairly high demand aircraft by deactivating scenery I don't need using the configurator.
Hope this helps,
Bill
