If its so brilliant for teaching people to fly, why are people not allowed to use it to learn to fly with?

I think it would be great to have in schools to teach kids in highschool and gradeschool the basics of flight. I could see it becoming a great thing.... But no.......................... nope nope nope... :faint:
 
i'm not a pilot, nor do i play one on tv, but i thought that you could count a certain amount of ifr time with the sim towards your cert. no?
 
A simulator has to be certified by the FAA to be able to use in your log. I seem to remember something about an X-Plane(?) based product undergoing tests for that certification, but I don't remember any details. MSFS can be used to illustrate the basics of VOR nav, radial holds, etc., but nothing official can be logged.
 
I'm pretty sure the existing FSX license would allow use in Grade Shool or High School level, for teaching other concepts (physics, aerodynamics, etc), as long as it isn't an extra cost (over and above whatever a class at a given school might cost) and isn't used to actually teach a formal flying class (ie something with an FAA license at the end). I believe there's also an exemption in the EULA specifically for museum type installations using the Kiosk.exe program provided.

when i left my old flight school ,they were installing a sim ( full cockpit thing ) which used FS 2002 to run in addition to all their frascas . it can be used to log sim time on a logbook but there are many conditions to that and i can't remember the specifics to it at all .
 
Yes they did Odie. We were asked if the Navy could install The FREEflow Ultimate Florida Landclass in their Flight Simulator. We gave permission to do that. Whether they did or not was something else.
 
I believe, (correct me if I am wrong) Flight Simulator did not fall in that category is because FLIGHT SIMULATOR is NOT a GAME!!!

Here in my Home State (Sunshine state) of Florida, we have Flight Simulator Classes.... there is an Institute of Simulation and Training (IST in UCF - University Of Central Florida) and I am positive they use FS98... there are other schools in my neighborhood that utilizes Flight Simulation in our local schools (for Aviation)... we have real pilot schools training (interested) kids...
