Making aircraft parts disappear with texture transparency?

Seems I read a post here at SOH somewhere about making parts of a aircraft disappear (like drop tanks) by making the texture completely transparent for the area that paints that part.

Did I dream this or is it possible/feasible?

Thanks

Henry

In FS9 you could black out the alpha for the parts of the texture file you want to hide. It only works if the alpha is not used for gloss/shine effect. In FSX it does not work properly, the part becomes sort of transparent but also all other model parts behind it which looks weird.

About the best you get in FSX is like Predator in the jungle ....more translucent than transparent...;)
