Making Gmax Trees...

Textures...

Hey all.

Ok I have 9 textures finished so this will be in two parts. You've seen 4 of them.

bh_oak2.jpg
Oak2 - Same as before.

bh_oak1.jpg
Oak1 - Same as before.

bh_birchsm1.jpg
Birch - same as before.

bh_beech1.jpg
Beech - New.

bh_ash1.jpg
Ash - New.

Last 4...

Here are the last four textures for now.

bh_walnut1.jpg
Walnut - New.

bh_pinesm1.jpg
Small Pine - Same as before.

bh_pinemd2.jpg
Med Pine - New.

bh_pinelg3.jpg
Large Pine - New.

Now I realise that the three pines are all different types. Actually I think one is a Fur. I'm running with it anyways.

Kelti,
If you can find more like that Walnut it would be great. The less background clutter the better.

So thats where I'm at. I have both Oaks and the Ash modeled. only in one size right now. Hope to get some screenies soon.

Till Later,
John

Hi John,

I agree 100% with Allen, they look fantastic!!! :jump:

I can search for large size, single trees with little or no background, but let me tell you it's going to be tough. The ones I dug out yesterday were almost the only ones sized according to your needs. Besides, I have no idea where to search, other than in Google pictures.

At this point, I would repeat Shessi's comment of not being too picky, John. What you did is already great with G-max low-poly, well textured tree objects we can use in our sceneries. :applause:

I don't think a lot of sim pilots hanging around here would taxi up to a tree after landing and check it out! Bombardiers would concentrate on their aim, rather than linger and observe how beautiful is that patch of maples and birches behind the target......

I'll :running: for what you asked for, but don't go crazy over them!

Cheers!

Some more trees

Hi John,

the attached is what I could find so far. It's getting tougher, but I'll search more for you tomorrow.

Cheers!

Thank you Kelti. Your awesome man.

I'll look at those and see what I can do. Its very time consuming so maybe I'll do what I can now and a few more over the winter. I need to keep working in my WWI scenery so I can't let my self get too bogged down counting my own rivets.

The alphas look good too. I had to uses a couple different approaches to get them how I wanted. Those nine came out better then I hoped.

John,

I have a question which may help you better with the tree textures. Since you asked if I could get something like the walnut I sent, that is not a picture but a drawing without any background.

If you prefer drawings instead of real life pictures, I think I can send you several you can use. For any tree I searched, a scientific profile drawn on a blank background was always among the pictures. I'll attach later a few samples.

Cheers!

If the drawing is life like enough then by all means. What ever you find will be great. Those black poplar will work very well.

More stuff

John, try this link. The pictures are gorgeous but I cannot get Google to translate it and identify the trees. If you can do it, I think this is some of the best I have seen so far.

Other than this, I spoke too soon. Most of the drawing have symbols or transparent lettering over the trees. I guess to avoid reapers like me getting the image and use it commercially.....:biggrin-new:

The attached are the only ones suitable for your purposes. The maple is stunning, the ash quite less. I truly hoped a lot I could get similar images for other trees but no cigar.

Cheers!

Beautiful but there's a catch......

Have you seen this site chaps?

http://www.shutterstock.com/cat.mht..._source=&safesearch=1&version=llv1&media_type=

That link takes you to trees in general, but you can type in the specific type of tree you want.

Kevin

Nice, Kevin!

Unfortunately, all of the single tree profiles have superimposed lettering over them, the usual anti-web-theft measure. Too bad, because they are truly splendid.

Some of them in the multiple profiles do not, but I don't know if their size will suit Blood_Hawk23's editing needs. It's up to him.

Did you see the Vietnamese website I found? I posted the link above. Next time I went back to it, I was able to get Google translator work for me, that's how I discovered where it comes from. There we need a tree expert to identify them, but the profiles posted are just as beautiful and free from anything that prevents them from copying and pasting somewhere else.

Thanks for your help, anyway! :wavey:

Cheers!

there is a site that will help with Tree ID but there are 60 trees to go through. someone else will have to do it.

Yeah Kelti your right about the other site. they look great but not useable. the small ones loose too much detail.

Now that I've spamed the board...

I just noticed it. LOL

So I was doing a fly by and I noticed an issue. It seems my alpha channels are creating some problems. on a few of my trees they are too big. So I have a dilemma. Do I model them to the hight or do I crop the image. In a group it will make a difference.

here is a pic of the Chestnut...

bh_chestnut1.jpg

Don't look too close at the trunk. It didn't have a base so I made one.

I'm doing the Black Poplar next. So thats where I'm at.

Blood_Hawk23,

You're really doing some outstanding work here. Keep it up, let me know if I can do anything to help! :biggrin-new:

Kelti,

Here is one for you. Tell me what you think.

Hi John,

I am getting an error message from SOH following the link you posted, so I am sorry, but I didn't get the chance to see it.

The chestnut looks wonderful. Since you made up the trunk, get rid of those vertical dark lines, chestnut tree bark is very smooth. Other than that, it's absolutely perfect. :applause: :applause:

Do you think it'll be possible to talk AI opponents into letting one admire the splendid job you did on the trees without shooting his rear end off? :biggrin-new:

Cheers!

No problem lets try again.

bh_bkpoplar1.jpg

There, lets hope it worked.

I'll see if we can call a 24 hour ceasefire. Wait... you're going to be raking the mud when you plant them. I think you'll be sick of them by the time you start flying around them. :biggrin-new:

Getting back to them...

I've started work on my trees again. I'm taking a break from the Italian bombs. The parachute issue has given me a headache.

So while working on that I figured I would try to finish some of these. I've managed to make them destroyable. Actually they just disapear. Either way it works.

I'll get some pics after I've finished some.

Some shots of the Chestnut trees. Three sizes; 5m, 20m, and 35m.

More to come...
