Malta Spitfire

Wow, it is NOT JUST ME!?! :blind::isadizzy:

Did M$ somehow send out an update that is killing CFS2???????? A slow and agonizing death?

Fortunately, I still have XP on one of my HDs.

I have WIN7X64 on the main.
I have WIN7X32 on one.
I have XPx32 on one.

I may go back into XP boot to build my missions. It seems much more CFS2 friendly.

It seems that you can start and fly until action is comming, but no matter if it is air combat or ground attack,CTD is there imidiately as soon any enemy is in sight.
Killer Svend

Yep

That' s exactly what I said the first time this discussion was on: I can fly, either in free flight or I can warp, but the very second the enemy gets in sight, WHAM CTD. Never made it through any of those missions, but always suspected the reason to lie within the Malta Scenery. I even had Rami try to help me, but in vain. Hopefully one of you geniusses (and I really mean it) may find the cure. The scenery is too beautiful to not use, and Malta is too important a part of history not be covered.

Killer Svend & Finn:
Can you recall where you were flying when the ctds occur? As I said in my post above, my problems always are in the immidiate vicinity of Valetta, and I was able to fly and fight without a crash if I removed th Valetta BGLs from the scenrery. Everything else remained active.
Now it would be interesting to know if your ctds are also in the same area. Or do they happen everywhere?

My latest CTD came when we attacked Sicily, as soon the ground objects were in sight, the CTD came. On the other hand Malta is such a small area means Valetta is almost allways in sight,by the way I have had CTD's at sea, far away from Valetta. As Finn said: it is now time when the guru's are getting out from their caves and get the **** operating.
Killer Svend

Killer Svend, could you try and remove the two Valetta BGLs from your BSK_Malta_V2 -> scenery folder and delete the filelist.dat? I made Folder in the main CFS2 directory that I named Backup, where I put those files to get them out of the way.
This removes Valetta from the scenery, everything else remains in place.
If you now fly the missions, do you still get a CTD? If not, that would be an indication that the Valetta scenery is indeed at fault. Otherwise, I'm out of ideas again...

Good morning,

Hopefully, this discussion will continue until we get to the bottom of this. Malta is one of the "mysteries" of CFS2. Some people have real problems here, and for others, Malta is problem-free. I do think it's a texture or .bgl-related problem, but we're damned to find a solution.

Skylane
I followed your advise and deleted the two Valetta BLG's and loaded the second flight in the campaign I had a CTD right after take-off wereas, before the CTD came just when the enemy naval base was in sight and I locked an enemy vessel and armed my bombs. I tried then to change to single missions and loaded "Malta Channel Sweep" and here I fired my first shuts in the whole game, I shut down 2 109's and returned safely to base and landed- no problem, I think the whole game is bewitched, but I am going to continue my testing and keep you guys informed about the progresses. It might take some time as I am an young man and can't spend all my time in front of the computer. For all of you ,who have problems -Get out of the bushes and let's have your comments!!!!!!
Killer Svend

After my tests I was sure the Valetta BGLs are the culprit. But apparently there are more/different problems.
You are right, it would be nice to hear from other people who have problems with this scenery..

Skylane
I tested 3 single flights
1. Alciones on the march: Total without any problem
2. Stringback Escort : CTD, error log says:Unable to init.unit 9110
3. Pedestal Supply Protection: CTD ----------------------------9262
Any idea what this could be ??

Killer Svend,

Yes. I can help you here.

1) The "Stringbag escort" error is telling you that the game is not recognizing the Alphasim Taranto Swordfish.

The most likely culprit? I omitted an instruction in the README, so blame me for this one! :jump: The sound in the Alphasim Swordfish is aliased to the ARK ROYAL model. If you did not include that model in your aircraft folder, or you did not copy over the sounds, this is certainly the most likely cause. You must make sure to check if the TARANTO model shows up in free flight.

2) The error for the Pedestal supply protection mission is telling you that the aircraft SU_BF_109F_4 folder is also not being recognized, or is causing CTDs. Once again, check to make sure the aircraft shows up in free flight, and if it does not, check the usual suspects, such as making sure you installed the conversion pack, and that any aliasing for the panel and sounds are done correctly.

Rami
The ALPHA Swordfish has caused me problems in the past,so just in case I installed all 3 of them all of them flying perfect in free flight. When I opened the mission Stringbag escort, I got the message : Can't find the Fairey Swordfish (TARANTO) in the library after ok Got the message no possibile to fly I renamed the aircraft file and cfg names and was allowed to fly Afte smashing the U-boat I had the CTD. Both the bf 109's are flying perfect in free flight. The game clame allso that the Beaufighter is called mkic and not VIC as downloaded acc.to Read.me.

Just to clarify, there are three occurrences of the Beau in this camp. In mission 4 its named "Beaufighter MkIc" and in missions 14 and 15 its named "Beaufighter VIC".

Good evening,

Yeup...I missed another one, the Mk. Ic. When I have time, I'll work on the readme file, but I'm just too tired tonight and I'm in a lot of pain.

A lot of pain? Take care of yourself Rami...

P14u2nv,

Thanks. I've had DVTs in both legs, and the veins in both my legs are badly damaged. I wear compression stockings on both legs to force the blood that can pool in my legs back up toward my heart. Even with that, I still occasionally, though it hasn't happened in two years, have areas on my skin that open up with ulcers. I have one on my left ankle now, (which makes wearing shoes and driving pure joy...) as well as on the top of my right foot. (Ditto on previous comment)

I don't use this as an excuse not to work, and my students don't give me a hard time when I sit on a stool during the days when the pain is too much. It helps when you have already earned their respect. I haven't had an outbreak like this in two years...it feels like someone is holding a branding iron to those two spots and holding it there, especially after I have been on my feet teaching all day. Erica has been a wonderful help, and I'm hoping this episode will pass, just like the others have.

The only person here at SOH who knows what this pain is like is grizzly50. He's had this too, so he knows. :mixedsmi:

Rami,

I am very, very sorry to read about your pains, and I am sorry if I hunt you around in the Arena with my constant troubles re malta spitfire it is peanuts compared to your problems. I really wish all the best to you and hope that your health will improve. You are in my prayers.

Best Regards,

Killer Svend

Killer,

Don't apologize for this, I just wanted to let you know why I haven't been around much, other than my job. ;)
