Manfred's Douglas C-47 Reloaded (Beta)

I thought I would show off Manfred's slow startup in this video. Also, create a nice startup effects (beta) with a pop in the exhaust. You really have hear it to notice, but it's there.

Tufun, does the starting sound kick in just a second or so after the prop starts to turn ? I might be imagining it, but if so, can it be tweaked ?

EDIT: Also, is that FTX England you are using ? If so, ACG's Duxford can be made to blend in far better by going to Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery\ACG IWM Duxford FSX\scenery and removing files Duxford1.bgl to Duxford8.bgl ( 8 files in total ). It works in winter too...not perfect, and there is a slight elevation issue in the south east of the airfield, but it does look far more natural.

Thanks for the nice videos screenshots and provided information.

Gman, when I look at the texture size I understand the lay-out has changed due to which the old textures can't be used any more.

Is the lay-out still similar to the old version, but are the fuselage textures now (only) merged?

Thanks for the reply,
Huub

The work files in the sim will be 2048 x 2048. The paint file is the 4096 x 2048 and covers the entire aircraft. This way you can do all the work on one file...much easier when working with stripes and lettering. Then save front and rear tiles at 2048 square into their respective work files. There is a template for that in the paint file.

TuFun has already tested the older files with the new model and the files worked fine for him.

Here's a couple of shots of another WIP. This one is more appropriate to the C-47 military, and shows better as a working aircraft. I've still got most of the weathering to do, but it's good for a teaser.

Thanks for your prompt answer and for putting both fuselage halfs in one texture (great idea and indeed much easier).

The Search and Rescue livery looks stunning as well! Geat weathering so far and again really something to look forward to!

I hardly flew a DC-3/C-47 before Manfred released his "now old" C47 (Too many engines confuse me :icon_lol:). Now it is one of my favourite aircraft. Unbelievable this one will even be better!

Cheers,
Huub

I get on these kicks where I fly tubes, just to keep the math and procedures tuned up. My favorites are the old radial birds. I've got quite a few C-47, DC3 payware types that I fly fairly regular. The thing I like about Manfred's C-117/C-47 is the fact that I don't have to paint half a dozen tiles to get a really nice skin. It's a one shot deal and the flying model is as good as anything I've got.

If Manfred opts for a high end VC...it's a pure winner.

I'm not sure what skins he wants for the re-release, so I'm improvising as I develop the paint kit. Here's some update shots of the AF Search and Rescue circa '47 with weathering and new (again) bump maps. I opted to add the propeller warnings etc. even though the source art didn't show it.

I went ahead and looked at the starter file and found that was indeed a delay in the beginning with no sound. So what I did is grabbed the starter sound from this video and edit for FSX. My first sound edit... always wanted to do some custom sounds!

Now #2 engine has the original sound, #1 engine has the custom sound edit. Also, been working on the smoke effects, now with black initial smoke trailing from the pipe.

No Orbx scenery in my FSX. Maybe later, but using it for testing purpose at the moment. ACG Duxford is the only addon scenery loaded at this time.

You sure this thing is airworthy??? ;);) Superb "G"! :salute:

seems like the spinners are a little wobbly?

Man, I wish I could get this in FS9... this really makes me wish I had the funds to get FSX looking and running nicely.

Another skin I thought I would checkout on the reloaded model.

I saw that... no biggie... fixed! (ball-peen hammer);)

Ha! Manchester Screwdriver, works every time,:icon_lol:.

That start up is absolute magic, thanks to you and Gman for all the hard work you are putting into this aircraft.

Manfred did a fantastic job producing both the C47 and the C117, they are both a great gift to the FSX community,
I think this Reloaded version will be the best freeware aircraft of 2013 without a doubt.

That hum sound is likely the electric fuel boost pump being activated. Here is a nice video clip of a C-47 having the engines primed and started. Starting procedures today differ from what is printed in most 1940's and 50's operating handbooks.
