Manfred's Douglas C-47 Reloaded (Beta)

Just a question; Is there a chance for a Air Alaska and Buffalo Airways repaint?

You don't like this?

Say this is really spectacular. Any chance of high resolution textures for the paint? A bit blurry on my PC when you zoom in and look around. Thx, d

I dont know why I have this ugly blurry

No worries. It's still superb. The golden reflections are stunning.

Any chance for a repaint of the Vera Lynn flown by Ruskin Air Services known from the 1980s tv series "Airlines"?

It would be highly appreciated.

Not sure whether this is the right thread for a minor bug report:

In DX10 mode (with Steve's Fixer) I get these two tiny graphic glitches - on an otherwise problem-free (and fantastic) aircraft.

Looking at other people's screenshots the glitches don't appear in DX9 (I'm not likely to flip back to DX9 even for a minute!).

I get it on all MJ C-47/DC-3 models, but if anyone wants to try it on the same livery/repaint, it's here: http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?...red-jahns-douglas-c-47-v2-zk-dak-nz-warbirds/

I'd be interested to know if it happens in DX9 (I suspect not) ... Check Shoprite Specials and Spar Specials. and whether anyone could confirm that it happens for them in DX10 mode.

Looking forward to that VC!!!!

Adam.

Hi Adam,
qualified response: Yes the shadowed triangles on the inlet are artefacts specific to dx10/11. The V2 version now accessible at Flightsim.com has the necessary corrections.

The other, squarish "shade" is really a hole or outlet, as on the real thing, wouldn't want to correct that.

In the meantime I have converted to dx10 myself and noticed that the same kind of dx10 artefact is also spoiling the spinners. If you can wait a bit for me to recompile the models you can get a quick upload link later here. Watch this page.

Cheers,
Manfred

Thanks, Manfred! I'll grab the updated V2 anyway ...

If you look closely in the dark area, that rear outlet has two similar looking triangles. Not exactly earth-shattering, but if you're re-working anything you might want to check if that's how it's meant to be.

Great news about you going to DX10. I totally love it - and Steve's Fixer has really given my FSX a new lease of life! But that's another thread LOL!

Incredible work, Manfred ... it's got to be one of the best freeware aircraft out there - and certainly the best DC-3 of all time (freeware or payware).

Adam.

EDIT: Is there a new/different filename for the V2 on Flightsim.com? The only one I see is the October 2013 version (douglas_c-47_v2.zip) ... which is the one I've been working with.

Ok, didn't know these things might be lurking in the shadows as well. I'll have a look.

(The cause of the issue is, Dx9 doesn't care if you map a poly sideways with zero area, while dx10 and 11 do. I am now paying better attention to mapping more carefully.)

Here you go Adam:

Didn't actually see the distortion in the outlets, but mapped them anew anyway (they did have flat polys). If you notice anything else please let me know. We want her to be perfect for the new VVC.

I believe the files at Flightsim had some of the tweaks, but these files here have more of them.
Absolutely perfect, Manfred! :ernaehrung004:. The outlets are a little confusing, as they often get a slanting shadow that looks just like one of those rogue polys. I panned all around the new ones and they appear to behave as they should ... well done!

No need for a confirmation screenshot - they're just as they should be.

I may be due to do another repaint or two - and that's the time when I spend a LOT of time staring at rivets etc. Something may come up when I get around to them. The RNZAF repaint I did was totally DX10 from start to finish and I really couldn't spot anything else at the time. Whatever it was about the spinner I don't know (unless that was one of the things already fixed in the Flightsim.Com V2)!

It's such a gorgeous aircraft and your model gave me many hours of pleasure looking at it as I worked on the repaint. You won't believe how many times I now jump into that C-47 and just *stare* at it (outside view). It handles beautifully and sounds just great. The new VC will truly be the icing on the cake!

I've had a flight in the NZ Warbirds DC-3 - and see it very often at displays here. We're really lucky to have one that spends so much time in the air - it's a joy to see.

Adam.

P.S. I really should edit my previous post. This isn't *one of* the best freeware DFSX aircraft .. even without the new VC, it's *THE best*. What was I thinking? LOL!

Many thanks, Adam, much appreciated. As you know, the members of this forum have been incredibly supportive and helpful. Keep those paints coming!

Cheers again for the hard work Manfred!

On the subject of paints, if anyone wants one done, feel free to drop me a line, am embarking on an RTW trip and I'm gonna needs lots of liveries by the time I'm done!
