Marc-Henri Guitteny's St Barths Woes

Fly Tampa did an excellent add-on scenery for FS2004/FSX/P3D back in the day that covered Princess Juliana/St.Maarten (TNCM), St.Barts (TFFJ) and Saba (SABA/TNCS). I flew many flights in many aircraft between those three airports! It was way better for TFFJ than the FSX stock airport. I think it's still available from some sellers too.

This scenery, like all sceneries by Marc-Henri Guitteny, is quite nice, and this slopped runway is indeed the main attraction. Without it, no fun. But mind you, approching this airport the correct way (mountain side, runway 10) is tricky and no fun too if careless with flaps and speed!

To get the correct slopped runway, don't forget to put the "St Barthelemy I TFFJ_ARP.bgl" file in \scenery\world\scenery\

I didn't follow Marc-Henri instructions about autogen and terrain.cfg, I don't like to mess with default FSX files. This scenery is fine even without custom autogen (and since I have ORBX, autogen is quite ok anyway).

Download is here (works in P3D too):

@vonstroheim .

That is pretty impressive screenshots and more impressive cockpit panel!!

Also, thanks for awesome hyperlink to French area sceneries!!!

Quick question, does St Barthelemy island - version 1.1 March 2011 - Updated in 2017 include correction to slopped runway or do I have to manually put the "St Barthelemy I TFFJ_ARP.bgl" file in \scenery\world\scenery\??

Aharon

It's an automatic installer, so you should not worry too much about that. Personally, I always point these kind of auto-installer to a temporary folder, and then inspect and move only the files I choose to. More complicated and prone to error of course, but more control over what's happening.

If you have non-typical mesh, payware airports nearby, various add-ons, you may experience problems with this slopped runway. Seems that's what is happening with the original poster... I just have ORBX vector and landclass in the area, and I have no issue, so far...

Slopped runways do exist in FSX, but they don't use default type of (flat) runway, it's usually simulated with pieces of photoreal scenery, so the look and feel is a bit different than what we are used to. Ground markings are a bit blurry, aircraft shadows are flickering, etc... It's a little price to pay to fly in beautiful St Barth and practice landing on such a weird, short, and hilly runway! No jets please...
