I also like how Kyle even though he finished a good 3rd & ahead of his points competitors still admitted his screw-up on the restart.

And back on topic, great to see Marcos mention & thank Richard Petty Motorsports often! :guinness:
 
Only caught the last few laps, one look early on at the rain and I switched off.
Great restart by Marcus, a long overdue win indeed.

Had to laugh at some of the 'stunt car' drivers, "The safety fence isn't safe"!

Be interesting to see them navigating Bathurst.
Impressed by several of the young guns, Keselowski, Truex and Logano all have plenty going for them.
 
I thought you bloody Skippies would be watching this one. I had fully intended to fall asleep during the race, as I have had very little the past two nights. But the damn race was too good. My man Denny hit that wall on brake problem real harsh, I remember when JJ did the same thing in a Busch car many years back. It's was a demolition Derby that final lap. Don't you guys just love big iron on road courses!

I didn't see any of the race - I got this dang thing called a job. Saw some highlights at NASCARdotcom though.

Comments

1) Marcos sure drove hard to get that win and got er under yellow. Brad and Kyle let him go - they both got bigger concerns - getting as good a spot in the chase as they can. You don't risk that for a win. I think that is part of why Jimmie got shuffled back - just protecting a finish. If you saw any of the prerace on Sunday you saw Tony Stewart himself say on National TV you don't do something stupid racing for a win. He said you maintain and try to improve your position in the points. He has figured out the war (championship) is far far more important than a battle (race). Besides no fan today pays money actually expecting to see a let er all hang out hard fought race by all drivers do they?
2) Kyle continues to drive polite. Of course with respect to Brad his father attends the races and Kyle don't want another Richard Childress incident - them old geezers is tough! :bump:

3) Denny really knows how to crash a car! Maybe somebody ought to explain to him that his right foot needs to work both the gas and the brake while his left foot works the clutch. Now instead of keep his right toe smashed to the floor while pushing the brakes to the floor with his left foot he coulda pushed in the clutch with his left foot and stepped on the brake with his right after stomping on the gas a couple times with his right foot to unstick the throttle. I been there done that more than once in a tempermental Mercury Montego in traffic in southern CA back in the mid-70s. You learn to manage your way around it.

4) At least the road courses are behind us now so we can really get down to business. If NASCAR really wants road races to matter big time put one in the final 10 or maybe run 4 or 5 a year. Now if only there weren't that next "wildcard" of a race in the final ten at Talledega where anything can happen.

Yes I did.
And considering that Nationwide races in the rain, and the comment about Lewis Hamilton with no experience drove quite well in the rain causes me to agree with Chad...
 
Ed, JJ had a crash at the Glen like that in the Busch series before he moved up to Cup. Same scenario, throttle stuck and brakes were no good. If anything, JJ hit the tire barrier and wall harder than Dennie. Can' remember the number or sponsor, but JJ's car was red and white. One of the worst head-on crashes I have seen in NASCAR.

Caz I don't recall the Jimmie crash but irrespective why didn't either of them step on the clutch and kill the engine instead of the rear wheels driving the car harder into the barrier? They should be good enough to do this.

As for Panther when the song is as good and true as this one you don't mind the skips... :bump:

It was nastier than I had remembered Ed, happened in 2001. Watch this, it's one of the most wicked head on collisions I have ever seen.
