P-47s burried in the ground

Tom (& Mark) love your stuff - IMHO the best in the Pacific!

I really, really, really enjoy the sceneries you have developed & know you have invested YEARS of time to create them. THANK YOU!

I know most of the posts on this topic are several months old, but I recently installed your scenery. You asked for feedback, & it sounds like you may be working on an update so here are my comments. A solution to the P-47 height problem (#1 below) would be nice, but most of the other stuff is more less suggestions for an update.

I have noticed several issues; but not the trees appearing on airfields mentioned above.

1) All of the P-47s appear burried up to their wings in the ground - I suspect this is a problem with object height inherited from Guy Diotte's objects. This occurs at more than one airfield.
2) Pagan WWII airfield is a frame rate hog (my parameters are listed at the end). It must have too many objects. I see a LOT of (autogen) trees. I go from 20 fps to 1.7 or less, making it a slideshow, whenever I fly over this particular island. In contrast, when flying over Tinian with all its objects & Saipan next door, FSX doesn't slow down that much - only over Pagan.
3) Random Crashes - I mention this one just to give you feedback; to make you aware of it. When I install a new scenery area I enjoy exploring it with a helicopter, or with Gary Burns Willy's Jeep. Sometimes a random crash occurs. This happens near objects but far enough away that I don't expect a crash. I know there is a bounding box for each object, & this is probably the culprit.
I noticed lots of light poles in the scenery, so I got the idea to drive around in the jeep at night. Each lightpole puts a square of brilliant white
light onto the ground. I found out that as soon as one tire touches a square, a crash occurs. I suspect the crashes happen in the daytime too. Since the light squares overlap the roads/taxiways in some places; if you update the scenery you might want to adjust. It would also be nice if the squares were not so bright, & were more rounded. I know these scenery objects may have been created by someone else.
4) The Tinian runways show as 1, 19, 2, 20 etc in the default ATC "select a runway for landing" menu. I can see the runways are East-West, & NOT North-South. Other airports have incorrect runway directions as well.
5) None of the airfields have a control tower (for ATC). Therefore I can't interact with the tower for takeoffs or landings, or taxi to parking etc. I
understand if this is not your forte; but it's a bummer - especially when flying the big 4 engine heavies.
You spent a lot of time developing this extensive scenery, so I hope you will give it some consideration if you release an upgrade. I'm considering doing a long night time flight to recreate the fire bombing experience. The lack of Tower Communications, & Runway Lights, VASI etc. makes it really tough.
6) ATC refers to "Oakland Center" for flight following. Is this a glitch, or is there an "Oakland" in the middle of the Pacific I'm not aware of?
7) I noticed you converted the modern Guam International into a water airport. When I'm flying around viewing your awesome photoreal scenery I hear ATC instructing "World Travel Airlines" to "expect vectors to Runway 36 Water". So far I haven't witnessed a landing - but it might be spectacular. (This was before I installed John Young's B-29 AI - I haven't tested it yet to see if it affects the default AI flights).

This has become a long post - but since I didn't see many of these issues listed elsewhere I thought I would bring them to your attention. If I have given you the impression that I'm nitpicking or criticizing your hard work - THEN I SINCERELY APOLOGIZE FOR THAT. I never would want to bash a freeware developer for their creative work. Your add-ons are the very thing that keeps a 2006 product still interesting 8 years later. Thanks again for doing what you do & sharing with the rest of us.

My System Parameters:
I fly on a 2006, Dual Core, Slow, Laptop, with 3 Gb RAM...
Windows Vista, built in generic video (I can't upgrade).
FSX SP1 - because when I try to install SP2 or Acceleration,
Microsoft says my system doesn't have enough capability to handle it.
Scenery Density: Dense (so I can see things like powerlines)
Autogen Density: Normal
No Ground Scenery Shadows
Special Effects Detail: High
Level of Detail Radius: Medium
Mesh Complexity: 80
Mesh Resolution: 38 m
Texture Resolution: 1 m
Water Effects: None
Land Detail Textures Checked.

I do not have ORBX or any Payware Mesh / Landclass Installed.

Grafmann, I will look at the issues you have documented as soon as possible. None have been reported before so give me a little time to check each out carefully. Thanks for the constructive comments. This may be an issue because you haven't got Acceleration installed. Back as soon as possible.

Grafmann, see your private message regarding all the issues you mentioned in the message above. Thanks for the comments and for downloading flying Marianas 1945. :untroubled:

Stovall - take a bow...I really appreciate your scenery and gifting it to us..thank you!

Actually this problem is not just for this scenery.

I have this exact problem with OpenVFR's Terrain and Autogen and Hamamatsu Airbase in Japan.

Previously I had the same mesh but 2 sets of complementing landclasses - scenerytech and a free one and there wasn't a problem.

I tried this program and it half-worked. It got the trees off the runway.

The reason I mention it is because it seems to be potentially pointing at a solution or may at a stroke solve some of it? I don't know if it works for airport addons that are not in the original fsx airport database though.

I guess it is also pointing at the issue
- do people have another product defining autogen in the area?
- or is another scenery interfering?

Grafmann I would turn off crash detection - you know when you have crashed.

Additionally I know there are a few terrain.cfg files out there at either flightsim or avsim that propose to fix this problem - autogen trees popping up even though they are excluded. Has anyone with the issue tried them?

Airport Tower Control

Stovall, I read your PM & replied, thanks for your comments.

I'm running SP1. All the airfields in this scenery appear as uncontrolled fields with no Tower to request clearance from. Just the generic notifications to other pilots in the area. Tom indicates that all the fields DO have Towers, & thinks I'm not able to interact with them because I'm not running Acceleration.

I'm curious if any other users are experiencing the same thing. Please let me know.

Thanks,
Grafmann

Installed with readme again. In some airfields I have trees too in the middle of airstrips.
Is it any file to remove it? I cant find solution in this topic. I have FTX Global, Vector, LC. No problems with other Stovall sceneries from WWII period.

Yo Yo, Global and or Vector created the problem with the tree. Instant scenery has a program to remove objects like trees etc. You can also try to do the same with ADE (Airport Design Editor). Once Vector and Global appeared I also had problems with Iwo Jima. I posted a correction for Iwo Jima. Good luck. If you find it is only one or two airfields, let me know which they are and I will see what I can do to help. Tom

How on earth did I miss the release of the Marianas??? :dizzy: Guess I need to take more time 'carefully' checking threads. I must admit that sometimes I'm in a hurry (limited time) and scroll too quickly.

Anyway's am off to grab this fabulous scenery.

Do You think about Airport Elevation Correction (Run Auto-Configuration) from FTX Vector program?
I will check it.

Edit: not solved, most of airfields looks like this - trees on airstrips and parking areas. I saw here many people has a problem like this and most from us used FTX Global and Vector in FSX.
Maybe small patch for FTX users?

I didnt note problems like this in Solomons, Truk and Chi chi with Vector and Global. : )

I will look at it again today Yo Yo. Won't be easy as my Marianas 1945 is clean NOW. I had the problem on several airfields but not all. Hopefully I will have an easy fix later. On Iwo Jima I had to adjust the runway in ADE to remove all default autogen. That worked there for sure. I know Iwo Jima is not part of Marianas 1945 but I notice that right after intalling Global and Vector. The Vector tool didn't seem to help at all with elevation. Elevation does not seem to be the problem but more like autogen.

Have yet to try your Marianas scenery Tom. I have FTX Global and Vector and am a little confused from reading here whether it will work or not?

Expat, looking at the screen shot above tells you that there are problems since the original release of Marianas 1945. There were also problems when trying to use it in P3D v2.5. What makes this very difficult is when I test it on my rig and setup maybe one or two airfields show the trees. I send it to beta testers and the trees show up on different airfields and runways. If I remember correctly someone used Instant Scenery exclude to remove all the trees from the runways they found to have problems. Airport Design Editor can also be use to remove trees and autogen.

Maybe it is time I updated the entire package for FSX and P3D. When time permits I will test my current working P3D version in FSX. If all goes well I will update the download. Thanks for checking in and your interest in Marianas 1945.
