Marianas

Heide; I am not one to correct you but you wrote in a reply to SW07 that you thought Imo Jima is in the Marianas . Actually it is not. It is a Island by itself. and technically considered part of the Bonin Islands. as per the internet AI. FYI and clarification

Fibber,

I know that.

In that thread I mentioned the scenery UT did so SW07 would know and at the end said Iwo Jima was in the Marianas, meaning in the Marianas pack. The Bonin Islands are in the Marianas package.

Heide; Thanks for the clarification. I thought you were meaning the real world location. Thought it was strange as you traverse the pac. in the real world. Never considered the sim world. Sorry. Mea Cupa,, Mea Cupa.

I asked UT to do scenery of the Marianas awhile back from the Japanese side and he did a great job. Finally have time to get some missions done.So far 9 are completed. The first you takeoff in the dark and go after some Betty's that have been shadowing the Fleet during the night, the second is also takeoff in the dark but attack the Japanese CAP over Saipan.

The next missions start the next day attack the airfields, mainly the AA and after the aircraft. You will be flying top cover for the bombers so the can complete their attack runs. There are 7 missions done so far for the second day so far with 1 more to go.The TF will start south of the Island and sail around it.Most of the time you will be sailing away from the Island for launch and recovery because of the wind direction. So that's 10 missions to cover 2 days.

I have other missions done but not tweaked yet, they include you flying a Dauntless in a shipping attack. The attack on Tinian is next with you flying top cover in a Hellcat again and back to Saipan for the invasion.

These missions will be flown from the Enterprise as it's part of the the Big E campaign. There will be at least one mission from Lexington because her Avengers did the first Avenger rocket attack.

There will also be the attack on Truk by Enterprise using the newer scenery by UT.these have been completed.

I'm not sure of the timeline because I have family flying out here.

Is there any interest or should it be stopped?Let me know what you like so far of what has been done.

I have been trying the 68th senti in New Guinea and it is a bear to install. I can not fine ijn_sc13_1944 any where. could you help me with this ship?

Hiede:

I only built for 1 carrier, the USS Essex, where she's making i or sometimes 2 attacks per day. Usually each "attack" has a 3 aircraft missions associated with it, Player can choose to fly either the F6F, TBF or the SB2C campaign or individual missions. - versions of each.
I've worked over Formosa, about to sail back to the Philippines.

Your work sounds more in depth than mine as far as the Marianas are concerned and will be a welcome addition to our library. :running:

So far there are 22 missions covering June 11-14,1944,the last few are attacks on Guam. The attack missions are done and we have to do stopping planes coming from Iwo Jima to re-enforce Guam. After that back to Saipan on June 15 for the invasion.

Looking forward to these missions. 👍

They sound like they will give an impression of the relentless pace of carrier strike ops done in preparation in the run-up to Forager & the "Turkey Shoot".

The carrier task forces really did range far & wide, preparing the battlefield... easy to forget the efforts made to ensure success.

Yes UT, they did range far and wide. In my campaign, USS Essex and TG-38.3 strike the Marianas then move west to hit Iwo Jima and other islands.

UT,

That's what I'm trying to show, everyday operations.Where the campaign is at now,"The Turkey Shoot" is 4 days away and will be included.Right Enterprise is off Guam intercepting planes flying there from Iwo Jima.
I was surprised at some of the Japanese planes used-Ki21 Sally and Ki 48 Lily.

Of the 24 mission done so far,7 are from the original Marianas Campaign but all updated and some other changes.

After doing more research we found out Agano on Guam was fully operational by the time of the USN operations in the Marianas,it was the Japanese bomber base and Orote a fighter base.It adds a couple more missions.

So far 24 missions completed.Missions include-air strikes on Saipan,Tinian,Guam and 1 anti shipping mission. The last mission is Orote on Guam to destroy the fighters there because it was the main fighter base.Agana is the next target because it was the bomber base.Other missions include intercepting more Japanese plane flying to Guam to support the IJN Carrier strikes against the USN Fleet.
