Mark Martin was real lucky!

Very fortunate indeed! If the end of the pit road wall had hit just a little further forward, I think Mark would have had more than just bumps and bruises.

Did you see all that oil dump right outside the drivers compartment? Really lucky that didn't ignite.

According to Jayski this morning, the speedway and NASCAR are going to do something about the wall.

Actually, there was an ignition when some of the oil splashed onto the right rear brake rotor. Fortunately, oil is no where near as volatile as gasoline, so the fire did not quickly spread and become an inferno.

Hey All,

I think Mark was incredibly lucky. I watched the race and the crash. That wall end sliced into that car like a hot knife into butter. I know the door has more bracing but I would bet not enough. I'm not a Martin fan but I hate to see anybody hurt or worse like that. I was totally astounded at the announcers not saying anything about how close it was.

PS poor poor Jimmie - he was not a happy camper - and rightfully so! I bet there is smoke coming out of the Hendrick engine shop with what 4 cars failing.

Evidently it's a batch of bad valve springs. Not really the shop's fault as the shops don't make the springs.
