MaskRider DEI 090912 Ready for Downloading

MaskRider

Tiller of Soil
Well, its been a while coming but new MR DEI Pack- built for Rhumba's mesh and masks packs- is ready for downloading from my web site!:icon29:

Just click on the "MaskRider Home Page" link below my signature image and then click the "NEWS" link. Full instructions and links to other required add ons are on that page. The page is also reproduced as a readme.doc in the zip.

I expect lots of feedback on this one. :d

Read the NEWS page carefully- you should find everything you need there.

Cheers,
Chris

I have a question for ya... What will happen with your new scenery if I load these and do not load Rumba's mesh? What will happen to other, stock and download, scenery if Rumba's mesh is loaded?

Thanks and congrats on another project well done!

If rhumbas mesh and masks are not loaded then these airfields will not work- they will be hopelessly out of place.

If rhumbas mesh and masks are loaded then all other airfields- stock and add-ons will be hopelessly out of place.

Problem is that the stock CFS2 mesh and masks are hopelessly out of place.

In order to build G2K SRTM SWBD based airfields on the stock mesh- unless one is building an entire new island- such as Noemfoor or Middleburg or Wakde, etc., the coastline adjacent to the airfield always needs to be tweaked in order for the borders of the scenery- the ends of the shorelines- to hooked back up with the misplaced CFS2 stock shorelines.

As long as one is building within the confined limits of the well meshed stock CFS2 environment- Solomon Islands, Eastern Papua New Guinea, this is an acceptable workaround.

However, Rhumbas mesh and masks, IMHO, render the piddly confined well meshed areas of the stock CFS2 "expendable" for lack of a better term.

I now have two installs of CFS2. One strictly to accommodate all stock and add on airfields made to fit the stock CFS2 mesh and masks. And the other install dedicated strictly to the much more expanded and accurate CFS2 environment represented by Rhumba's mesh and masks.

I know not what others may choose but, as for me, give me Rhumbas mesh/masks or give me nada. ;)

I am rebuilding my cfs2 world. And am happy to share but I am committed- and probably should be committed! :d

I started with some long neglected- by me- airfields in the DEI just so I could at last enjoy the area the way it is supposed to look.

However- I think my next project will be a total rework of the Solomon airfields- stock and MR- to fit Rhumba's Mesh/masks.

What can I say. Its just a hobby.:d

MR, This is looking so good!

Now I have to DL Rhumba's stuff (again), for a good reason:
Laha is in the right location, at last! :applause:

Thank's Chris great work I appreciate it very much Big BZ shipmate :ernae::ernae::ernae:

All this is happy talk is fine and dandy guys but I wanna see some screenies! Hehe!

Anyone actually getting this thing installed?:d

Chris

I'll Get The Ball Rolling

Well I've been flying around with rhumba's mesh for a while...but this is the first time with airstrips!
Nice coast detailing in the Fak Fak area Mask. So far all is great except for my world/texture installation. If you designed this with Pactex ver 1, :ques: then that's the one I'll put in this install.
Thanks Maskrider. :applause:

Hiya Dave,

Ahhh, yes. Good. Thanks, Dave.

Yes, the coast detailing in the Faf-Fak area was a real chore- keeping it from climbing mountains.

WRT PacTex v1 or v2- I seem to have v1 installed. I wasn't sure, so I ran a comparison on 064h2su7.bmp:
pactex1-2_064h2su7_comparison.jpg

I'll make that clear in the install notes.
Thanks, Dave

Chris

Actually, I already had specified Version 1- just didn't remember and it wasn't in very big print!:)

Chris

I've installed the scenery and it looks magnificent on my brand new monitor. You have certainly put a lot of hard work into this project. The detail is fantastic and the new shorelines, rivers and terrain look very realistic.

I notice you have included NDB's with the new airfields. When you have time, an NDB frequency list would be appreciated.

Well done MaskRider,

Kevin

Hiya Kevin. Yep, for some reason the file with the runway entries and NDB frequencies, runway_entries-ndbfreqs.txt, is missing from the zip. No clue why. It isn't missing anymore. I just uploaded a new zip that includes it.

To save time, find
runway_entries-ndbfreqs.txt attached below.

Thanks for letting me know!
Chris

Hi Chris,

Thankyou for that.

Just flying over Manokwari - it's a work of art.

On the subject of NDBs and airbase.dat entries, I notice there are entries for Norfolk Island in your latest Micronesia package. Did you in fact make scenery for that location?

Kevin

I appreciate that. Thanks!

WRT Norfolk Is: yes. if you have that pack installed, Norfolk Island is listed under the drop down under NSW. Technically it is a Aussie Field (as you well know) but it was part of the Pacific Air Ferry Route so I include it in the latest Micronesia Pack.

It should work fine with the Rhumba Mesh and Masks install, too. I haven't been there to look- but it should since it is a total island and does not fit into any stock CFS2 shorelines or mesh.

I am actually very fond of Norfolk Island. It was my very first full tilt replacement of an entire stock CFS2 location. If you have ever visited the stock CFS2 Norfolk Island location you'll see what I mean. It is a Twilight Zone style abomination!:d

This post reminds me that there are quite a few MR Micronesia Island locations that will fit in fine with Rhumas Mesh and Masks.

I'll put them together into a pack.

If you want to see what it looks like go to my website, GALLERY link, Micronesia -> click on Norfolk Island.

Chris,

Your screenshot looks beautiful - just like the real thing, complete with cliffs. However, all I am getting are the GSL objects (including Norfolk Island pines) sitting on a raised ocean. I can't find the BGL files nor the BMP referring to Norfolk in the Micronesia scenery folder.

Most people who live or have visited Norfolk are also very fond of the island. It and Lord Howe Island are jewels in the Tasman Sea. Norfolk has an interesting history - first a brutal penal colony, then home for descendants of the Bounty mutineers. Until recently there was no income tax.
