MaskRider Gilbert Islands

Stuart277: I see a great contrast between the coastal areas and the open sea in your screenshots. I use the stock water textures with the Pactex and it looks more natural. If you want them, I can send them to you.

Cheers:

stuart277 question

Hiya Stuart,

I was wondering if you could take a top down screenshot of Kuria or Aranuka island and post it here on this thread?

Thanks.

MR

PS: here is what Kuria should look like- making allowances of course for differing texture installs.

You neglected to either (a) deactivate your other Mask Rider Micronesia scenery folders or else (b) delete the specific scenery files listed here and in the readme.

Also you need to change the runway entries in you airbases.dat file to the new ones included in the scenery pack.

Tsk! Tsk! ;^)

MR

PS You might consider installing the Pacific Blues water texture pack at some point.

MR.......

.....I have a slight inquiry here. I have everything apparently running right EXCEEEEEEEEEEEPT I seem to have a HUMONGOUS green building on two of the bases that is waaaaaaaaaaay out of scale. The one on Abalang Atoll sits at the end of ,and abutts, the runway. It then continues out over the water at the back.
The one at Abemama sits at the side of the runway and dominates the scenery.
Are these left overs or did I pick up a bad d\l somewhere?
Not having muck luck trying to get a screen shot here. Mainly because I forgot how!:banghead:

Hiya Fibber,

Please post a screenshot!

MR

Ooop... didn't see the bit about forgetting how to do a screeie. Just hit your prt sc key. That will save a shot to the clipboard. Then open some sort of image processor- PaintShopPro or whatever- and go to file\new image from clipboard then save it and send it.

Are you working with a virgin install or could there be leftovers from some other scenery still floating around?

I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with the MR Gilberts pack. No reason that it should.

Does it actually look like a building- in other words does it have doors, windows etc.? Or is it just a big old green box?

MR....

...thanks for the quick comeback,:wavey: It is a dedicated theater install that I am using for the PTO. The building looks like a VERRRRRRRRRRY large hanger. About the size that a Big Buff would fit in! Don't know where it comes from as I never saw it before. Doesn't show in any of the other fields. Just these two. Weird!!
Tried the Print Screen and it is a no go on this old WinXP board. Will try something else, if I can remember it.

MR..........

....here is a screenshot. Not the best angle but shows what it is. You can fit a BUFF in this thing!

Thanks Fibber,

Yep. Those are orphans leftover from some other scenery you have installed.

MR

PS: BTW are they static scenery objects (API Macro) or dynamic object- can they be damaged by gunfire?

The reason i ask is that I don't recall any hangars that large that were ever released as dynamic objects. However, Macros can be re-scaled to as big as you want.

Also it appears to be 3 or 4 hangars side by side.

Can they be targeted in MB?

MR.......

..tried that. Can't be damaged by gunfire, in fact I can fly right through it. Ironic part is I have never seen this thing before this! Doesn't show up anywhere but on those two bases!

When was the last time you went flying around Abemama or Abaiang? Bet its been a while and who knows what sorts of random missions and such have come and gone since then.

Can they be targeted in MB? That would indicate whether they are macros or dynamic objects.

The only other version I ever made of Abemama was an API Macro version. And it definitely did not contain those hangars- I just looked to make sure. Nada.

And this new version most definitely doesn't use them.

MR

PS You might also try deactivating the newly installed MR Gilbert scenery folders and then see if the hangars are still there.

OK, some feedback please...

With the Rhumba watermasks deactivated, i also eliminated the pac?????.bgl's to clean up the double coastlines at these new locations. Got perfect results wherever these new bases are concerned. However, all other locations that i frequent in FF, QC and missions are now without coastlines, as i anticipated of course.

My question is how do you guys reconcile this tradeoff? Do you have a solution that i'm unaware of or do you just live with it and try to ignore this effect at the affected locations?

Is there a way that i can have my cake and eat it too?

Bearcat,

I hope you only eliminated the pac????p.BGLs - the pac????m.BGLs can stay. You need to reactivate the pac????p.BGLs when reverting to stock scenery. That's why I moved them to my Rhumba coastal flattens layer. I activate that layer along with the Rhumba's water files layer when I'm operating in the older scenery areas. I keep Rhumba's mesh active at all times.

Basically, when the water masks are activated, the coastal flattens and water files are deactivated and vice versa. I have all the water files for different parts of the world in the one folder. This means I'm only dealing with three layers in the scenery library. I get perfect renditions of all the PTO areas as long as I remember to activate/deactivate those three layers in accordance with the particular area. It's a bit of a nuisance, but you get used to it.

I experimented with eliminating both sets in turn. Of course, in either case the rest of the PTO (older stuff) was crap.

Ok...that sounds like the "reconciliation" answer i was fishing for. Although it does sound like a nuisance, it gives me some alternative. I suppose it doesn't get any better than that.

Thanks my friend...:guinness:

Hi MR
I changed the airbases to the new ones included in the scenery pack.
Deactivating MR Micronesia worked well
Initially I tried the delete the scenery BGL file but had a problem where the game was looking for them and would not load.
I tried it again today and did not get that message.
Thanks for help and your patience.

Actually, Stuart, I am the one who should be thanking everyone who downloads and installs my scenery for the time and patience.

Installing these scenery packs is nowhere near as easy as it used to be. What with all the misc. mesh, mask and flatten combinations floating around out there and the fact that these new scenery packs many times are replacing old ones, thus creating the need to uninstall the older stuff. It can really be a pain in the rear end! I am happy that as many people as do take the time and have the patience to tackle the job.

I'm not sure that I would.

BTW, I'll be releasing another pack in the next day or so- an expanded and reworked DEI pack. So stand by for more heavy rolls! ;^)

Cheers,
MR
