Thank you Kdriver and Maskrider. Knowing what to get rid of and the future of the sim is good to know. MR: I thought the DEI was already set for Rhumba mesh. Or are you just redoing specific bases. You are right, I spent all night and all day setting up a PTO install with the Rhumba mesh and the new scenery. I spent most of my time with installing the multitude of downloads and getting the airbase.dat file in order. Speaking of which, with an ~250 base limit, can I substitute some of the new airfields for the ETO bases on the .dat filem, or must they stay there? :dizzy:

Hiya SW,

First off check your PMs.

Yes, you are right, the pack available here st SOH, the DEI 090912 pack, is all set up for Rhumba's Mesh.

However, this soon to be released pack is a complete rework/expansion of the 090912 pack.

The new pack, the DEI 2019 pack, includes:
(1) new waterclass bgls;
(2) new landclass bgls;
(3) new consolidated AFD bgl;
(4) new textures for the blended ground polys;
(5) the addition of bunch of new bases in and around Halmahera Island and finally
(6) the removal of all vestigial API macros from the older release and their replacement with dynamic scenery objects in the GSL.

Cheers,
MR

Thank you Kevin!

Those lists are a great help!

I am going to get mine set up as close to your setup as I possibly can. Very neat and tidy. Thanks

I pretty much have been running with Rhumbas mesh and masks period.

It will be nice to be able to easily switch back and forth between older and newer airfields.

Regarding the question about airbases, yes you can substitute new airbases for the ETO bases. In fact, you can remove them altogether as long as you keep the remaining runway's [runway.numbers] sequential.

Thanks Captain Kurt,

Just to CMA ;^)

I answered SWs question about the cfs1 runway entries but I did it in a PM I sent to him a bit earlier.

But I should have answered here.

I am glad you did.

One never knows who might benefit from such little tidbits of info.

Just didn't want anyone to think I was betting forgetful in my old age! :^)

Cheers,
MR

Bearcat,

I hope you only eliminated the pac????p.BGLs - the pac????m.BGLs can stay. You need to reactivate the pac????p.BGLs when reverting to stock scenery. That's why I moved them to my Rhumba coastal flattens layer. I activate that layer along with the Rhumba's water files layer when I'm operating in the older scenery areas. I keep Rhumba's mesh active at all times.

Basically, when the water masks are activated, the coastal flattens and water files are deactivated and vice versa. I have all the water files for different parts of the world in the one folder. This means I'm only dealing with three layers in the scenery library. I get perfect renditions of all the PTO areas as long as I remember to activate/deactivate those three layers in accordance with the particular area. It's a bit of a nuisance, but you get used to it.

Kevin

Hi Kevin
I have some of questions for you.
1. the pac????m.BGLs can stay - what about the guam9.bgl, iwajima9.bgl etc
2. What are the pac????m.BGLs
3. I moved them to my Rhumba coastal flattens layer. - by this i assume you have a separate folder 'Rhumba coastal flatten'/scenery/pac????p.BGLs and that it has been added to the scenery layer via the usual process
4. I activate that layer along with the Rhumba's water files layer - again I assume you have separate folder 'Rhumba's water files'/scenery/CST4a10a_m.bgl etc and that it has been added to the scenery layer via the usual process rather than putting the Rhumba.s water masks in the Main Scenery folder as instructed by Rami's PTO installation tutorial

Cheers
Stuart

Hi Stuart,

1. If you're using Rhumba's LOD 5/7/8 mesh, then the stock LOD 9 mesh files can be removed.

2. The pac????m.BGLs depict the land masses without beaches, rivers and roads.

3. Leave the pac????m.BGLs in their original location and move the pac????p.BGLs into the PTO coastal flatten layer (CFS2 Coast Pacific by Rhumbaflappy). In the scenery sub-folder you will have many BGL files prefixed "M" followed in alphabetical order by the pac????p.BGLs. Yes, activate the layer by the usual process in the scenery library after starting the sim.

4. That is correct. Here is the hierarchy starting from the bottom layer (which is layer 1 when looking in the scenery.cfg file). Rhumba's layers are in red:

Terrain, Watermask, Default Scenery, CFS1 Library, Scenery Ships, Aircraft Weapons, Vehicles, Effects, Runways, Buildings, FS2000_props, Mesh 7, Mesh 8, Water, Coast, specific add on scenery layers etc.

Mesh 7 and 8 are always active, while the other three have to be turned on or off depending where you are in the PTO. If watermasks are on, then water and coast are off, and vice versa. I'm not sure if you can simplify it further by putting all the water and coastal flatten files in the one folder.

Good luck, and by the way, thanks very much for all the wonderful new ships. I don't know how you do it.

Cheers,

Kevin

MR: I was just zooming in on the airstrip on Tarawa to begin placing objects for a mission I am building and noticed something. Did tou place AA guns in the gun emplacements around the airsrtip in your bases' GSLs? :banghead: :dizzy:

SW07

Hiya SW,

No I didn't.

Just emplacements.

Hope it doesn't take you too far out of your way! ;^)

As my daughter used to say when she was just a little girl: "Saw-wee!"

Until later,
MR

Whoops!

Belay my last!

Yes I did put guns into the emplacements at Tarawa- and only at Tarawa.

The reason is that I was following a very detailed diagram of which types of guns were actually there and wanted to be as accurate as pos.

Again, Saw-wee!"

MR

I included the layout file with the scenery. You could always go in, edit them out and re-save the edited layout to a new gsl and re-add it via GSLMan. Or you could edit them out using the MB-GSLeditor.

Oh, and BTW, not all of the guns are AA guns. Most were Anti-Boat guns.

Okay, Shadow, don't say I never did anything for ya! ;^)

Here is a gsl minus the guns at Tarawa. I left the 140mm coastal guns and the 8" guns and dumped all the rest.

Cheers,
MR

:applause: :applause: Bless you sir! I was reluctant to do the GSL edit thing for lack of experience and laziness. I appreciate the effort on your part. I had already started to build a mission with "live" AA guns on Tarawa, placing them on top of yours. Now I don't have to! :jump: I have a couple of missing objects in the scenery - a "blister" (probably a hangar and another (I forgot), I will repost that when i get home. I'll have some action screenshota over the island too.

Thanks again:

Greg

PS: The missing parts are "model blister" and "model blastpen" Any idea what D/L they are from? Also, I installed that new .gsl after first removing the first one. Did I do right?

Nowadays I believe the objects found in the GSL_RAF_Buildings.zip are now included in both the CFS2_BoB_Gary20_TAF_airfield_objects.zip and the CFS2_BoB_manual_install_2.0.zip. Both are available here at SOH from Gay20's download section.

I have the stand-alone version of GSL_RAF_Buildings.zip available upon request from my website.

Cheers,
MR

You guys have my head:dizzy:, however I am determined to set my PTO to run decent looking scenery for the missions I am flying.
I currently run 3 separate PTO installs at this point--PTO Talon( His missions), PTO Early (Coral Sea & Desperate battles) and PTO Midwar ( USS Essex CV-9). I am running three because of big hard drive and my simple mind at time of installation. :untroubled:
I plan to take a long look at each to see how the scenery is running and peruse the discussion here and also look at MR's new DEI.
Thanks for all the good info.
