Mathijs Kok of Aerosoft's Statement on FSX bug

jmig

SOH-CM-2025
Did anyone else pick up on the statement by Mathijs Kok in the podcast about the graphics bug? According to him, if I understood it correctly, there is a timing bug in FSX that negates or even hurts faster graphic cards.

Has anyone noticed this? I have a 8800 and haven't seen a lost in performance. I don't understand what Mr. Kok meant. Can anyone enlighten me here?

I've got a GTX280 and it performs better than people I know with lesser graphics cards... even if only marginally so.

I didn't listen to his podcast though. :kilroy:

EDIT: I finally did listen to it...

I heard that...BUT

I have found that my little very cheap Saffire 3850 runs FSX as well as my 4870X2 ....

But there is a real issue with X2 cards and FSX ...At least on my rigs anyway......

Yes I heard that too. I think what he intended was that faster gpus might not function as expected due to FsX's inabiltiy to keep up.

I was given a BFG GTX285OC which I sold recently and switched back to my ATI 4870HD. I also have an ATI HIS HD4850 turbo, all of those cards ran FSX equally well. I did not see a big change in fps between any of them. I run my E8600 X48 at 4.2GHz. FSX is the only game that runs like this. The GTX 285 was a screamer in CRYSIS, CALL TO DUTY, and Medal of Honor AIRBORNE. Oh well, go figure. I have no idea what is in FSX that does that. I wish it were configured for SLI or CROSSFIRE. Needless to say I sure was looking forward to FS11

I'm not griping. I like FSX and my systems run it very well, but I think of what could have been...
Ted

It sounded to me like he was saying the faster GTX cards suck data (for the lack of a technical term) faster than FSX can deliver. This slows down everything.

Oh well, one more thing to be pissed at Microsoft for. :)

I hope Aerosoft does make FSIX. It sounded like there is no lost of love between him and MS.

LOL You know you are truly dyslexic when you type roman Numerals backwards. Jeeezz

Controller: Most of you Pilots seem to suffer from Dyslexia.
Pilot: I used to have it, but I went to the Doctor and now I'm KO.

This would explain some of the issues that followed or 'plagued' FSX was that higher end GC's werent always cutting it for some odd reason.

Maybe they will find out someday why it all went the direction it did. Who knows.

My thoughts are that it might be a DirectX issue and the 'new territory' of sending more data to the GC, which is a new gaming concept (at least when FSX was launched). That might have 'something' (if anything) to do with it, but who knows...

Myself, on a new iMac, which isnt a gaming machine, but does do dang good, cannot go from FSX full screen mode, to Desktop, and back again. It aint going to happen. I was told what it could be, (I cant remember, something like DirectX losing its ability to go from one to the other, getting confused, and thus crashing one side, which would be FSX).

Alot goes into a gaming platform. I look at Rise of Flight and see all the amazing realism in it and I am amazed.

I hope Mr. Kok does well with his new Sim. I for one am looking forward to it. Cant have enough sims is my motto. :d

The CPU asks the GPU to draw.
If the CPU doesn't ask, the GPU doesn't draw.
That means that if your CPU asks 30 draws per second, there won't be any card that will draw more than that.

I'm refering to GPUs that are fast enough not to slow down the CPU, of course.

Just listened to the podcast. It was a little time consuming, but an interesting perspective.

There were a few points of interest , his habit of chasing down pirates for sport and charging 10 products purchased or the names would be published was novel , that the German market for FSX was larger than that of the U.S.A an interesting observation , but the singularly most pertinent comment was that in their opinion the market for FSX products was going to be unable to support further development expenditures within a year was telling indeed. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

It was indeed a very good interview and must say Im pretty impressed. Well other than the extortion thing.... :)

$35000 to develop something like the cat ... someones on a nice earner :isadizzy:

not about the card but just listened to the podcast

I don't agree with the "FSX bug" part, I get higher FPS with GTX 275 than I had with 8800GT, though the bandwitdh issue may really be a problem with wrong setup. I remember Phil Taylor blogged about it when he described TEXTURE_BANDWITDH_MULT setting.

Other than that, nice and interesting interview.
