MAW 1943 BETA, Link Provided

Yes, it acts like DisableScenery has been clicked on in cfs3config.exe, but I've double checked and it's not.
 
After checking and/or replacing every imaginable individual file, I finally gave up and just copied the entire Assets, Terrains and Terrains2 folders from MAW, and let them overwrite whatever came with MAW - 1943. The trees and building scenery is back. Hopefully there wasn't anything new in MAW - 1943 that I wiped out by doing this.

did you try just swapping out the Terrains folders, or alternatively just the Assets folder? Stary's scenery addon will be lost. Changing Assets wil obviously return scenery and terrain budgets to stock, but I tried just changing them and did not get the trees back.

Thanks for the update I will take a closer look as time allows.

I really enjoy flying out of Crete (is it Heraklion airbase?), this is a good place to test scenery, trees and buildings.
 
Yes, I had tried many different individual files, zip collections and then whole folders, before I went all in and did everything.

One thing I noticed that I thought might be the problem was that there were two folders (not zip files) with zip as part of the name in the terrains folder. These were not generating the zx files that the other real zip files were. I replaced those, but it didn't resolve the issue either.

BTW, my MAW version is not the original, as I had added the high rez textures to it a few years ago.
 
Missing Trees and Buildings Scenery

There is a problem in the settings of some budgets file or other. I've tried Majormagee's solution (clear out the Assets folder except for the Model subfolder), and clearing out the Terraiins folder and copying over the contents of the Terrains folder from MAW v 1.31 - and it works fine. Trees and buildings come back. Try flying out of Heraklion, Crete, and there should be plenty of buildings and trees around the airbase.
 
I thought I had commented on Majormagees findings. I recommend to people that they remove the files in the MAW 1943 Assets folder (not of course in the subfolder topend models texture which is a stock feature of cfs3).

Then I recommend they swap out the current contents of the Terrains folder in the 1943 install, and replace with the stock MAW 1.31 contents of the Terrains folder.

This will give you your trees and buildings! Then I would recommend installing Stary's MAW textures which HH uploaded to SOH a while back.

And an update - there have been 69 downloads of the MAW 1943 install thus far.

If anyone wants to post their favourite settings for scenerybudgets.xml and terraintexturebudgets.xml for MAW 1943, that would be great.
 
These are designed around using Level 5 Detail Settings across the board. Since everyone has a system with differing capabilities, the values here may or may not work for you. In particular, both of these try to minimize the sudden appearance of scenery objects and terrain changes by making the level of detail uniform out to great distances. This works for me because I have a sufficiently powerful CPU/GPU combination and limit the game to 77 FPS in the cfs3.xml so they can easily stay in step with one another. Having said that, if I push the MajorDensity values too high the system will start to bog down. I have even been able to push it so high that the game just runs out of memory space and crashes.

Well the spawn set is simplified by not including any of the mission-set specific spawns. Just spawn flavour for QC environment and campaigns. Most of the stock spawns have been modified to some extent or other. Slightly different ground.spawns, different ship formations, etc.

The answer to Alcanallen's question is YES - standard (albeit modified) spawns. My last answer was a bit off track.

Am downloading now and I'm thrilled you did this. :applause:

MAW has always been my favorite as well 'cause my old machine can deal with it (almost :dizzy:)

So thanx so much for your work and I'll post by and by as I get things sorted out.
