You beat me to it, I was going to start a thread on this. Let's just make sure to keep it about the event itself and not inject politics into the equation.
 
I went to the World Trade Center Memorial today and have been for years.Many don't know there are many First responder's and people that are in poor health because of all the toxins in the air from the attack.Many have died over the years because they haven't gotten the medical treatment they need until the last few years. I know the pain of losing Loved ones because of this attack,I lost 2 ( my husband in December 2002 and my brother in lsw in March 2015 ) and they were both part of the SOH Family.

For 12 tears we have done music shows to raise money for these victims and their families.So far we raised a million dollars to help them.

I have told the story before of seeing the second plane hit the WTC and everything that went on after.so I won't repeat the details.

Politics aside, it was a tragically appalling event to so many people, not just the immediate victims and their families, but all those who did the human thing, rushed in to help their fellows and have suffered toxic material illnesses since, with minimal formal recognition and help - as Heidi (and most of us here who don't live in a cave) are very aware.
We were in NY last year, briefly, staying near Battery Park....so,close by, but my wife just couldn't go to the spot...she's rather fey, that way. (Grew up close to Stonehenge, but has never physically been able to go into the place - she thinks she's been buried there...). We did speak to a couple of policemen though, who had been there, and they have to have complete physical check-ups, at least annually, which is something, at least.
Whatever your politics, we should all be doing what we can, to ensure events like this don't happen - anywhere in the world - a forlorn wish but, at least we should try to reject the nutters and hate merchants of all persuasions who incite this to happen!
