MDL files to Gmax????

Hi All,
Does anybody know if there is anyway to get completed aircraft MDL's to show up in Gmax?

I'd say, depends what you want do do with it.
If you want to make a static or maybe even AI aircraft out of a flying model, that's possible in most cases.
But you can not read (decompile) a mdl file directly into GMAX without converting it first.

There are also copyright issues to obey, needless to say.

Cheers,
Mark

While I firmly agree with the copyright infringement issues that arise from decompiling mdls for Gmax, apparently there is a programme out there that does this, an acquaintance of mine has done this (with author permission) and it worked I believe. If there is express interest in it, I can find out the name, although I am not sure what the general consensus is on it, and perhaps if it is best left nameless...

Although I was just thinking, even if you could get the physical mdl into Gmax, you would still not be able to re-compile it with the exact same xml code it was originally compiled with (think custom animations) unless the author supplied it to you, or you rewrote it according to your needs.

Can I just stipulate I Have NO Intention of committing ANY form of copyright infringement In fact I was just asking in view to possible creating my own models and just wondered if it were possible but thank you to all who have given directions.

Hi Hooky,

sorry mate, no offence or implications implied; I just wanted to cover my bases as it were, as it can be a sensitive subject.

Hooky,

If you are looking for some gmax source examples, there are plenty around. Some of mine are down in the Design forum.

Thats cool Steve I didn't think for a minute that was the case but
I just wanted to make my intentions clear as I'm only too aware that software piracy has cost this community dearly and didn't want people to get the wrong impression.

Cheers
